How much the mainstream media can be trust?

The Term MSM covers a lot of ground..everything form the New York Post to the New York Times.
All I can say is I trust MSM outlest with a good record a hell of a lot more then I do the "Alternative Media".

No one should trust a word MSM says!!!!!! -- Its all made to steer you down thier path!!!

US MAINSTREAM MEDIA is the worst......

You are new here, and we really need new blood but a word of advice;

Sweeping generalizations don't cut it around here.

You'd be hard pressed to dispute reports of major incidents like weather events and violent conflict on the major news networks.

Punditry, opinion programming, and talk shows should be avoided or at least skeptically observed.

I can only speak of Spanish MSM with some depth knowledge, and... I think it is awful, incredibly biased and partisan, and seemingly guided or controlled by the "casta" (ruling class) somehow. This is only clearly seen when there is a big crisis, terrorist attack, pandemic etc. and then all papers have this blatant single united front of official news. In normal times they all peddle their partisan left/right aligned opinionated "news", so it looks like there is a free independent press, but I think it is a fabricated impression. Recently, when covid was approaching Spain, there was a clear orchestrated campaing of disinformation in all Spanish MSM (there was not a single dissenting voice) trying to downplay the danger, then slowly all at unison beginning to warn that the virus was definitely here and what we had to do. (that was in late March... at least one month late, compared to most European MSM media, or the official WHO information...).

The partisan biasedness of practically all outlets, even internet based supposedly independent sources is tiring. It´s either criticising the rightwing politicians´ actions and downplaying the leftists´ failures to ridiculous extremes, or the opposite. In fact I only know one or two properly independent sites and the contrast is shocking.

(end rant...)

We're all very skilled at seeing media bias against our own worldview and very poor at spotting bias when it conforms to our beliefs.

I don't know if it's misinformation, outright lies, or me just being stupid, but the media keeps saying r/wallstreetbets is pushing silver, when they are doing the exact opposite. I suspect it's probably some of the hedge funds pushing these stories, hoping to recoup some losses from boomers who don't reddit but want to "get in", but that's just a anecdotal theory of mine.
