How can Dawkins redeem himself?

I say, just leave it alone. We all know skeptics that think in non skeptic ways about certain things. Saying "we will not buy your books, or listen to you talk, or stop bad mouthing you until you give an apology.." is so common now in the media. Like, someone says something bad about "gays" oncamera...he gets a "pass" because he does an apology which is so insincere it's silly. Or calls Obama a "dick", or whatever...

An apology should only come after time and reflection and may never come. But it must be freely given.

I don't agree, I think he was unnecessarily dismissive.

but I'll still buy his books. I still buy every early Heinlein paperback I can find, even after reading Friday. I expect to be shaped by the authors I like, not vice versa.

Well of course he would be against that. I mean the dunking chair not the normal human behavior.
 
Looking at what he said it does appear that he was silly and flippant in what he said.

I think that actually both of them were claiming something they would usually be against and that is claiming there is some essential feature of skeptics over and above applying a certain methodology. In the Skepchick's case it seems she has decided that skeptics are a heavily misogynistic group who think of women as unintelligent sex objects whereas Dawkins is saying something almost as silly that if you think skeptics are bad think how much worse Muslims are.

Both of them show pretty poor reasoning but they should probably just admit that each of them has said something silly and move on.
 
For the new comers on this board(post Rebecca Watson threads) look up her threads. They are full of sexual inuendo and sexual teasing. Including talking about what kind of person she is going to sleep with at TAM.
So I cannot really take her seriously when she talks about being put off by being hit on in an elevator.

I know, right. Because if there's one thing we know about skeptics - it's that they never learn anything or change their mind. Say something out loud one time and that's you for life.

That (the last sentence, which I realize is in a post dripping with tasty sarcasm :) ) is among the reasons why I didn't give in to the urge to crack a low quality joke after reading your narrative about that TAM -- the one where everyone was staring at your t-shirt.

Sometimes, what any of us posts on the internet gets pounced upon.

You'd think RD would know this, and I suspect he does.

Thus, I am pretty sure he is little concerned, or not at all, with the shrapnel from the lobbing of his latest tact grenade. :cool:

One time? She went on about it a lot. She talked about getting it on in her hotel room during a TAM party. She is a total flirt and tease. Being hit on is not the same as being raped. Being hit on is a part a normal human sexuality.
