House Impeachment Inquiry

Trump has also misspelled the name of one of his favorite and most loyal sycophants, Devin Nunes:
"A great new book just out, 'The Plot Against the President. The True Story Of How Congressman Devin Nunez Uncovered the Biggest Political Scandal In U.S. History,'" Trump tweeted, butchering Nunes' last name. "Shows very bad and corrupt people on the other side. Check it out!"
Trump tweet Oct. 29, 2019

Then there's Mark "Esperanto, Secretary of Defense", whom Trump praised:
He also advanced U.S. national security in government and in private sector, most recently as Secretary of the Army, where he played a critical role training and equipping our armed forces. That’s where I got to know Mark.

Only his name is Esper, not Esperanto.

This isn't just an ordinary, seldom seen proper noun. It's the name of the US Representative of the 4th District of Texas at the center of the impeachment hearings. To think you have not seen the printed name Ratcliffe dozens of times by today is unrealistic. That you still can't spell it correctly is just plain weird. And rather concerning.

Really? That's all you got, a typo or failure to double check a spelling?

I've rethought my comment Trump was bribing Zelensky. It could easily be seen the other way around. Trump was insisting on a bribe, Zelensky must announce investigations, in order to get favors from Trump.

Doesn't matter. They have smeared Biden successfully.

But have they?

Biden's poll numbers are up, his support among blacks is well up and growing, he was spoken of by one of Trump's pointmen (Kurt Volker) in glowing terms, during his testimony.

"I don't find it plausible or credible that Joe Biden would have been influenced in his duties."

"It is not credible to me that former Vice President Biden would have been influenced in any way by financial or personal motives in carrying out his duties as Vice President."

"The accusation that Vice President Biden acted inappropriately did not seem at all credible to me."

"The allegations against Vice President Biden are self-serving and not credible."

"Mayor Giuliani raised, and I rejected, the conspiracy theory that Vice President Biden would have been influenced in his duties as Vice President by money paid to his son. As I testified previously, I have known Vice President Biden for 24 years. He is an honorable man and I hold him in the highest regard."

I need no evidence at all to be absolutely certain Trump will have been fuming when to saw Volker vouch so vociferously for Joe Biden in such a public way in front of a TV audience of millions.

Interesting discussion on Amanpour and Company tonight explaining why what Clinton did was not a high crime. A high crime is not just breaking a law or one's oath of office, a high crime involves something where the POTUS abuses his office. Clearly Trump deserves to be impeached.

Sounds all well and good. Sad fact is, we aren't talking about rational thinking voters. I wish we were.

I agree that if this were a prizefight, they'd stop it. Jordan, Radcliffe, Nunes et al. are getting hammered!

Yeah Stacy, get it right girl!

Next time, you make sure you don't forget to put the "Rat" in Ratcliffe!

I agree that Trump abused the power of his office for his personal gain. I want to scream every time I hear someone say it was ill advised but "it's not an impeachable offense". Like hell it isn't.

I hope that this was already covered here, I don't have time to read. (I'm involved in a thread on another forum that has 8,000 posts just from today...)

This soundbite that all of the Republican congressmen and Republican bubble news organizations are concentrating on. The "I WANT NOTHING! I WANT NO QUID PRO QUO" soundbite.

That is from a phone call weeks after the crime. It's even weeks after Trump knew he was was caught!

They are literally trying to get people to believe that the COVERUP INSTRUCTIONS phone call was the original phone call. It is INSANE spin.

July 25th: The crime. (The extortion phone call to the Ukraine for help setting up Biden.)

Aug 12th: The whistle-blower complaint.

Aug 28th: News breaks about the extortion phone call and aid being withheld.

Sept 9th (Day): Investigations Begin

Sept 9th (Night): Trump finds out about the investigation and then makes the "I WANT NOTHING. I WANT NOTHING. NO QUID PRO QUO!" coverup phone call.

Sept 24rd (Morning): Impeachment inquiry leaked.

Sept 24rd (Afternoon): Trump phone call to Pelosi asking if she and he can "work something out" to "do something about this whole whistle-blower thing". He even tells her that he is prepared to put gun control on the table in exchange. (Her response to him was only that "He and his people should start obeying the law.")

Sept 24td (Evening): Impeachment inquiry is announced.

Again. Make note that the NO QUID PRO QUO phone call is WAY after the crime. It is during the coverup. Not during the crime as the Republicans tonight are trying to spin it tonight.

Thanks. I didn't have time to check that out, but I did think it unlikely that Trump knew the phrase "quid pro quo" without first having heard it used in reference to himself.

If the Impeachment doesn't go through, I can't see Trump doing at all well in the first debate with whoever wins the Democratic Party nomination. I think it will be the first time he goes one-on-one with an opponent in a public venue with a bipartisan audience since his election. Note: Putin was not an opponent for him.

Considering the size of the font he needs, his notes will be a stack like the one he claimed were all his submitted tax documents way back when.

It won't matter, he'll shout a few catch phrases and give his opponent a nickname. 40-45% of the US electorate will go away with the impression that he has won the debate :(

...."the witch hunt must end" said the witch right before they caught her.

We can still hope that, after she gets caught, she'll say "it's a fair cop".

Well done. According to Trump that statement, related by sondland to the enquiry exonerates him. Is it possible Trump can only play one dimensional chess?

With a single pawn.

“All four of Gordon Sondland’s lawyers are Democrat Donors.” @TuckerCarlson

A sad commentary on the partisan nature of politics today: you can't even be associated with the other party if you want your facts to be accepted.

I'm glad you stepped in to make this crucial point, and ignored the distracting facts in the process.

Sounds similar to the forecast before his first debate with Hillary.

Not saying he did well in those debates, but many of his supporters managed to see his performances as winning.

And the reason for that is that "winning" for them was acting like a jerk. Then the sunk cost kicked in. And that's for those who aren't deplorables to begin with.

Right, but now there is hard data about all his mistakes while in office. (Although, if the Access Hollywood tape didn't have much effect, I concede that those aggrievances may not matter either.)

No, I think Trump was right when he said he played 4D chess.

See, playing chess by the actual rules is essentially 2D. Trump, though, adds in a height and time dimension to his games: you never know when he's going to walk in, toss the chess board into the air, and walk off declaring victory.
