House Impeachment Inquiry

And the reason for that is that "winning" for them was acting like a jerk. Then the sunk cost kicked in. And that's for those who aren't deplorables to begin with.

I thought it was deplorables we were discussing.

You know, the 40 to 42% that still support him.

Trump supporters prior to the election might have had some basis to rationalize that they were not among the "deplorables", but after Trump's behavior in office up to now this is no longer possible.

A lot of the opening and closing remarks by both Schiff and Nunes are quite repetitive. Schiff seems to repeat about half of the same stuff. Nunes now has a litany that is about 80% the same.

To save some time just have them number their statements and call out the numbers before moving on with the hearings.

That would be silly.

They should convert their spiels to creative dance.

I'm wondering if the plan now is to set Rudy up as a scapegoat.

He hasn't held office in decades, is past his political prime. He can take the fall.

And when the Dems are through with him (since this is an impeachment not a trial and Rudy isn't in any elected office I'm not even sure what they could do to him...) force the whole thing to start right back at square one and hope the general public getting tired of the impeachment process is more, not less, likely.

Doesn't matter. They have smeared Biden successfully.
In receptive minds, and they'd done that without a Ukrainian announcement of investigations. Less receptive minds will surely notice that Mr. Trump calls all his tweet-targets corrupt, and the irony is that this jerry-built scheme (which was virtually bound to come out) has publicised the fact that there is no evidence of wrong-doing by either Biden.

...
And then after all that careful planning, just two days before total and complete success where the President of Ukraine was to say they were investigating Burisma and the Bidens and 2016 interference, those meddling Whistleblowers and their dog blew the whole thing up...

"And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids"
Hence the desire to out the whistleblower and destroy their life so this never happens again.

As Skeptic Ginger points out, it already has. Despite no evidence, Joe Biden has been associated with corruption in Ukraine.

Impeachment proceedings will have no effect on support for President Trump, it will remain at 40-42%, enough for re-election so long as GOP voter suppression efforts are successful.
I doubt it'll change support for Biden either. The smear was in already for Fox-watchers; if anything, Trump's scheme has tended to unsmear Biden with normal folk. This is what a moron gets when he tries to be clever. I find it quite delicious.

Thanks. I didn't have time to check that out, but I did think it unlikely that Trump knew the phrase "quid pro quo" without first having heard it used in reference to himself.
Quite. He's not big on Latin. He's big on words like "big" and "bad" and "I", not words like "prima" or "facie", and as for "quis custodiet ipsos custodes", fuggedaboudit. Ain't gonna happen.

I agree that Trump abused the power of his office for his personal gain. I want to scream every time I hear someone say it was ill advised but "it's not an impeachable offense". Like hell it isn't.
It’s a very good thing he didn’t lie about getting a blowjob! I mean, phew!

I'm rather concerned about things. Important things. The reason I'm concerned about these important things is because they are rather concerning.

One of the important things that most concerns me is an anonymous person on the internet misspelled the name of a congress person from Texas. I'm concerned enough about this perplexing and egregious gaffe to raise this rather concerning issue on a discussion forum for skeptics.
Heer, heer!

The poor Rebuplicans have to have new huge, tripped-out countup signs printed every day, denoting how many days since Schiff knew about or talked to the whistleblower (and another one with three big "NO xxxx" lines - I can guess what the smaller print says). They're placed somewhere behind Gym Jordan but I don't know if they will show up on his solo shot.

Treat the inquiry like Wrestlemania. Fun fact: There's a Wrestling Hall of Fame. Another Fun Fact: Donald J. Trump has been inducted into it.

I've always assumed that Hunter Biden being on the board of a random Ukranian corporation was hard to explain without some level of corruption somewhere.

Probably not illegal or anything. Just standard stuff for the children of powerful people that others want to associate with in order that maybe down the road blah blah blah.

That is how you do avoid the quid pro quo thing yet stay in the grift.

Which is why Trump probably assumed something illegal was going on. He (we think) has a lot of money but he has no idea whatsoever how the ruling class works and the rules it plays by and how the laws protect them.

I'm confident there was corrupt intent on the part of people at Burisma. Having grown up with the Soviet nomenklatura and the post-Soviet kleptocracies they'll surely expect some advantage from employing a son of the US VP. I've heard that the job was first offered to Hunter Biden's business partner, but "son of US VP" and close business associate of same is a distinction without a difference to my mind.
