Cont: House Impeachment Inquiry - part 3

...and you can use up to seven of those simultaneously.

My favorite version of this is when someone says Trump is going to do something, they are called hyperbolic, then Trump does the thing and the narrative still somehow stays on "You need to be punished for being hyperbolic."

Then you don't actually know me. I've taken the position that he's petty from the beginning.

Which makes your constant defense of him worse, not better.

Trump's cult of personality is not made better via the simple fact that nobody actually seems to think Trump is a good person.

Yeah nobody deny's Trump's faults. The question is whether or not destroying the country is worth him being a just punishment to visit upon liberals for their horrible sins of "sometimes being overdramatic."

Melodrama is never sinful in itself. The error is in lacking style in melodrama. Never rave from a podium when you could instead rave from a balcony. Don't splutter when you could gush with tears. Don't burp when you could vomit copiously off that balcony while weeping.

For now you could just step up your game by using more exclamation marks. Punctuation is shorthand for emotion!

I think what you have to take into account is that, in my experience, the people in "Trump's cult of personality" view the Democrats as simultaneously venal liars, but also snooty elitists who go around morally judging people while stuffing their pockets with money and doing all the other swampy things that are assumed to go on. Given the choice (as they see it) between somebody who is venal and non-judgemental, and somebody who is venal and sanctimonious, they choose the former. I honestly think that that is part of it. There is generally much more sympathy for the Bernie crowd amongst Trump supporters for this reason.

I think with Bernie it looks the other way around: He's kinda sanctimonious, but doesn't seem too venal.

Trump is seen as non-judgemental?

He likes the fact that Trump is sticking it to the Democrats.

Why is anyone pretending the veil on "This is just the biggest semi-organized trolling campaign in history" didn't fall off a long time ago?

I don't get why the Trumpers deny it. Trump certainly doesn't.

I know you well enough to know you deny many of his flaws. If you're not aware of that denial yourself then perhaps I know you better than you know yourself.

To be fair if you are referring to the conservative posters here they've been open about their appreciation of Trump's attacks on the Democrats.

I don't think there's been anything hidden. But now we have to navigate this situation intellectually and be careful that we don't use too much hyperbole or get details wrong in our outrage.

This is a skeptics site after all. And they are going to hold Trump opponents accountable.

For a moment there, it looked like you might actually open your mind a little bit to the possibility that people don't all fit within neat little boxes. But nope, can't have that.

As yes, I am aware. Trump could bang a water buffalo on live TV and it would still be the Democrats fault because in responding to it one of them called in a bison.

This is insane. This should not be the standard.

And they aren't admitting it. At least not in anyway that matters.

For a moment there, I thought you might begin to acknowledge you've been making far too many excuses to pardon Trump's criminal and incompetent administration. But nope, can't have that.

1. He'd never do that.
2. Okay but he's not currently doing it.
3. Okay but he's not currently technically doing it.
4. Okay but everyone does it.
5. He's doing it, we can't stop him, no point in complaining about it.
6. We all knew he was going to do it which... makes it okay somehow.
7. It's perfectly fine that's he's doing it.

I'm making this my sig so I can keep track of the steps the current Trump scandals are in.

Not much need for that.

His scandals and denials are pretty much in all those steps all the time from onset these days.
