Now Dog the Bounty Hunter is weighing in.
This case is wide open and we need a Big Dog to close the door. Smollett is running wild now and he must be brought to a stop. Right now the whole countryside is open to his rampant gay and black stamping stamping pow pow as if it were some kind of normal. No it is not normal.

Jussie wants to paint this land with gayness and blackness. Oh dear Lord my goodness my heart please steady now let me live. Stop Jussie Smollett before he Liberal Democrat Black Whatever You Sex and Everything Elses this country right into a butthole hole up there coming up now.

You sound like Walter (Owen's Grandpa)
Walter's 5 year old grandson,,, Owen,,, was turned gay by Obamacare.

As I said, you're wrong. You're oversimplifying a complex problem.

And I believe that is projecting. Not being able to draw clear battle lines, on the terms we want is a lot more complicated that "be eextra nice to people who are not your color... if you are white. ".

It's easy to tell who is black, now tell me how to spot a good person with power from a bad one. As you can see, in this situation many people are having trouble doing just that, but many others are just fine to say " he is gay, he is black I support him". Tell me, look at the posts in this forum alone, which side is coming off as having put more thought into the issue?

As I said, not there yet. We are trying to overlay the issues we want to fight onto those we are experiencing, and it isn't working.

For me, this was never about race. It's more of a typical famous superficial dickhead from LA thing.

Osundario brothers' attorney goes on Tucker and slams the Smollett attorney's claims that the Osundario brothers were in white face.

Is she their attorney now? I thought last word was that she had left their case since they wouldn't contradict Jussie's claims to be vindicated.

Seems to be me it would be most beneficial if the Osundario's themselves would back this up. Hope she's right that they will eventually speak.

Can somebody explain to clueless Eurotrash (me) what could motivate a prosecutor to do this?

As I understand it, having a high-profile perp is great for your career.

Foxx is also the prosecutor going after R Kelly.

Is this some kind of liberal incrowd thing, or people from the same ethnic group being clannish, or friends in high places thing?

Police publicly made multiple, contradictory, claims to the public at large. That alone pretty much kills any chance of obtaining a conviction - tainted jury. They also apparently contradicted the FBI's view on the letter, and the two brothers stated that the check they put forward as payment for the attack was, indeed, for training.

There's also the low public confidence in Chicago police's work - among other issues, there's the long-running "black site" where confessions were literally tortured out of people, the habit of picking random kids up and then dropping them off in more dangerous territory (often, in the territory of gangs that rival the gangs that they live in the territory of), and sitting on the Laquan McDonald shooting video for over a year to help get Rahm Emanuel reelected - this is such a scandal that he didn't even bother running for another term.

And then there's the wildly over-the-top charges - 16 counts, when they didn't even charge the three police who helped cover up the aforementioned McDonald shooting?

Basically, the CPD is so crappy that there was little chance of getting any conviction, much less the decades of prison time they wanted.

Hilariously, police, and Emanuel, are claiming that it's actually Smollett that has ruined their reputation, which only confirms that they're still entirely unaware of the problem.

So my current thoughts.
Smollet is likely guilty of obstruction of justice for misleading the police. I have no idea if he was involved in planning the attack or just wanted to avoid fingering the brothers for some reason so he made up a story. I suspect the police and prosecutors got out over their skis and then realized they'd hopelessly muddied the water with the press conferences and public attacks on Smollet so dropped the charges because they now know they can't get a conviction.

So, I basically agree with mumbles.

Agreed, Mumbles makes a fair point in reminding about CPD's long-earned reputation. And seriously...not a bit of this story has been consistent or really plausible. Every version reads like a cheesy sitcom skit.

Damned if it's not a hoot, though. Funnier with every new detail.
