This is easy.

In any thread a logical reader waits for evidence.

In the first page of this thread several of our resident racists came in posting that for a fact the incident is a hoax. You can check their post histories and see that they always do this in threads involving LGBT and/or POC.

Here is the kicker, they then tried to claim that the few actual skeptics were doing the opposite. That the actual skeptics were claiming for a fact that the incident is real. Nope. That is the opposite.*

What the actual skeptics were doing was just waiting for evidence. That scares the racists to death.

*They hope that they can get other readers to believe the opposite by merely claiming the opposite. What is sad is that it works on over 30 percent of Americans as the Republicans have proven over the last few years.

We dealt with this trick in the 911 threads back in the 00s. The CTs would try and claim that they were the ones being skeptical. I wish we had those CTs back. At least they weren't openly racist.

And, again, all of that, everything that happened in this thread, is still exactly as telling if it does turn out to be a hoax.

I assume the fact that he saw a “doctor immediately” means he saw an ER doctor, which would explain his clarification that he wasn’t actually hospitalized. It sounds like he followed up with two physicians, who are maybe people he has seen before. I don’t know that it ultimately matters that much, since I don’t think Jussie himself ever said he had a broken rib or anything else that was serious other than cuts and bruises.

The misreporting is highly annoying, as it's just fueling conspiracies that the attack wasn't a hate crime/Jussie Smollett was attacked for "other reasons" and is lying to cover it up.

Misreporting is normal. It is not evidence of a hoax in and of itself.

The "25 officers" line from me was a joke about resources devoted to the case...if that upset you, you need to take a break.

I can't understand why you are unhappy with this discussion.

It's exactly the same way nearly every topic is handled at this board.

This isn't a jury or a court. It is a board full of die hard skeptics. We are free to say what we think.

If we don't believe Jussie, why should we hide that belief and pretend that we're neutral? Or vice versa?

Do we pretend neutrality about other subjects?

Our beliefs won't change the facts one bit. The story is either true or false on it's own.

A bunch of internet posters brainstorming to the point of absurdity about a case has no actual effect at all.

It just seems odd for a board member (at a skeptical board) to be upset that many board members are skeptics about a reported crime, or whatever the topic might be.

Police say both Smollett and the "persons of interest" walk out of frame (on different cameras). Smollett would reappear on a different camera about a minute later. So basically for about 60 seconds Smollett is not on surveillance camera.

So now Smollett has locked himself into accusing those two people, who are almost certainly not his attackers, given the video evidence we have heard about.


In an interview that will air Thursday morning, Jussie Smollett told “Good Morning America” anchor Robin Roberts that he is certain the two men featured in surveillance footage obtained by Chicago police are the same men he says attacked him.

“I don’t have any doubt in my mind that that’s them,” Smollett said in an excerpt from the interview made available Wednesday. “Never did.”

Asked why he was convinced those were his attackers, Smollett told Roberts, “I was there,” adding, “For me, when that was released, I was like, O.K., we’re getting somewhere.”

What he's on Twitter? He doesn't even have a blog.

I don't know the guy but when anyone reports what police say, I like to see it attributed and in quotes or later confirmed by said police. Where did he get the info? He's an anchor. Did he do the reporting from old connections when he used to do the police beat? Or did it come from his station's reporting pool?

Again, not discounting it. Just saying that Twitter is a strange venue for breaking news. A full report on ABC7 would be preferred. A police confirmation or report should ultimately be forthcoming.

The police are currently searching the shadows for ninjas. Hell, the MAGAninjasTM are probably playing the long game and still hiding on Lower Water. Even dropped their damn hot sauce/bleach bottle after 10 days clinging to the trestles.

I seem to recall a degree of skepticism that annoyed people when A Rape on Campus came out. There were all sorts of "misogynists" out there doubting the story as reported.
 
We also have he police report describing " A white rope draped around his neck" What's up with that description ? I thought we were talking about a proper noose here.
