horrifying attack on Jussie Smollett

That's exactly why. As often as society insists that black people apologize simply for being black, the answer is now "No, pound sand." We no longer have to grovel for every white person who walks by simply to avoid torture or death, so we don't.

The issue is clearly 'not apologising' for being black, it's 'not apologising' for helping only black people to overcome a disease that affects all races. If I make a claim that I believe is honest and non-contentious, I'm not going to announce that I'm unapologetic for making it. I would only do that if my aims were bigoted, racist or in another way unfair and I wanted to try and make out it was my accusers who were at fault, not me.

Considering that a rather large percentage of Empire fans are black, and the rest probably don't mind a charity for black people (since, you know, they watch Empire), I don't see the issue.

Most of the shows I watch have mainly white casts. If someone advised me to give my money to a charity that helps only white people I'd tell them to **** off. But yeah, what you say is almost certainly true.

These arguments get so incredibly old:

"Black people should pull themselves up by the bootstraps, the way white immigrants did."

"Well, white immigrants received massive government aid, but fine."

"NO NOT LIKE THAT!"

Don't like having organizations to aid black people only? Then get the government to invest in black communities the same way they've done for white communities. Until then, stop whining.

Or do whine. But we won't change, and it only makes you look like a bigot.

Now we're getting off-topic, but since you bring up the wider issue I will say this; you have a very one-sided take on the matter.

Nope, don’t believe you.

Never mind that, what about our bet? When's the deadline that one of us is officially full of it? Are you still going to be cheerleading for this clown's story this time next year? Did you attend his gig yesterday, voice your support whilst he was jumping up and down despite his broken rib? He's a hero, all right.

I think early on, the police decided whether they were investigating a crime or a hoax and have been circumspect either way. One thing I haven't seen brought up in this thread: there should be video of two people entering the blindspot at some point before the attack and then two leaving the blindspot at some point after the attack. They may not have entered or left the blindspot at the same time but video should show that two people disappeared there until the attack and reappeared after the attack. [This assumes the police have accurately presented the time window when this attack occurred and assumes the attack happened in an unobserved security camera blind spot and assumes the police have searched or are searching hours and hours of security camera video before and after the time window.] The police are either concealing this evidence or it doesn't exist. If this evidence exists, they can review multiple other cameras to track where the people came from and can probably identify them without much public assistance. If this evidence doesn't exist then the currently presented version of the attack is probably a hoax.

I don't know that not turning over the phone to the police is such a problem. Assuming a phone call actually took place, it would only be necessary to show or tell the police the start and stop time of the call. When the police synchronize the security camera video time stamps (for example, this camera timestamp is 1 minute 10 seconds ahead of police time and this other camera timestamp is 15 seconds behind police time) they would know exactly at what time to look for activity even with wildly divergent timestamps.

The police may have also advised Jussie Smollett and the manager not to say any more about the attack (I think this could be true whether it was a crime or a hoax).

<snip> If a compilation of videos of the man on that route could be made even if there are gaps in it, and even if by some chance the gaps are large enough to allow enough time for the reported incident to have occurred, I, as a forum detective here, would still like to examine the behavior of Smollett as he walks.

Did his gait and mannerisms change between Subway and his friend’s place? Is he walking slower from the reported beating or faster to reach safety or does it appear to be the same? Did he appear to be more cautious at the end of the route, looking behind himself, or did he appear to be walking as he did when he left Subway? Did the appearance of his clothing change in any way?

As someone who's logged way too many hours reviewing CCTV footage, I don't believe it's likely you'll get that level of detail in those surveillance videos, with the exception of the apartment building, which I expect would have a better resolution camera at its entrance.

What CPD likely has are low resolution time lapses of the cameras which Jussie passed by on his way home. I posted this earlier -

Even a grainy glimpse of two men in the general vicinity at the time and evidence of bleach on the ground at the crime scene would be helpful.

- because that's what I reckoned the police would find and it was helpful. If that's the only pair they found then that tells me Jussie's account isn't accurate. I could be wrong though. I was completely wrong about the camera that recorded the Marathon bombers.

The other thing about CCTV is very often it only raises more questions than it answers. We're seeing an example of that in this thread.

What exactly is that endless stream of semi-literate drivel supposed to demonstrate?

That site is very popular with rank and file Chicago Police Officers, as one can see.

One can only lead another to a font of information, what one chooses to do with the information so presented is up to oneself.

I find it highly amusing that there is doubt about the purported "MAGA country" utterance based on inaccuracy!? As if a violent thug would be mindful of such things.

(In no way am I claiming the utterance occurred.)

One only sees random anonymous comments. What one might do with such comments is to suggest to said posters a course in remedial writing. Do you have any evidence that the random stringing of words reflect the opinions of CPD officers?

"And above all, I fought them back," he said to cheers.

Then he paused and said: "I'm the gay Tupac."

And, he saved the sandwiches! Hee hee!

Look at those bruised or broken ribs go! @JussieSmollett on stage now in LA. #chicago

I predict that by Monday morning we will all be able to watch Jussie's performance in Hollywood on Saturday night through the miracle of cell phone video and YouTube. Some videos are already popping up.

I also predict that many of those videos will show a person who doesn't appear to have been the victim of a violent racist homophobic assault and that they will be taken down for violating YouTube's terms of service.
