From what I can gather, most in the black communities and on the left in general are mad at the guy and have very little sympathy for him.
 
If he isn't prosecuted for the powder terrorism letter then that is a green light for others because it looks like you won't be charged either.

It's a soap opera. They can.

It's actually a very well done show. I watched the first season, years ago when it first aired. I didn't continue because soap operas in general don't hold my interest, largely because the turns of events are so flexible. I reach a point where I can't disregard that the outcomes are completely arbitrary, regardless of what's been foreshadowed or what the plot seems to be leading up to.
 
If the brothers aren't prosecuted for being an accessory to a crime and also getting paid for it then that's another green light for future criminal activity. Oh but it's only because they rolled on a partner. That's another green light because anyone would think that if they confess and point at a co-conspirator then they get to walk free.

Reduce the punishment for the brothers but do not eliminate punishment. It sends a bad message to do otherwise.

If I'm reading between the lines of the various reports correctly, Smollett was doomed when he mailed the powder letter. The whole convoluted story of the hoax street attack is just a sideshow to that.

For just the felony disorderly conduct (false police report) charge, he could probably plea bargain for a fine and community service (which he could serve by doing performances for kids in hospitals or something like that). But with mail charges on the table, he might have to take a plea that includes prison time.

The case is going to be slow going from here, though. The only interesting development we're going to get for a while is finding out what, if anything, the producers of Empire are going to do.

There's too many bad messages here, Parcher! What does it say about us as a society when celebrities are held accountable for their actions? What kind of message does that send? Become a celebrity and you'll be treated just like Johnny Lunchbox and Joe Average?!! I don't think that I can live in cuckoo crazy effed up world like that, WilliamP!!!

not even gang members. look at the bundy followers. Blaine 'stanley hicks' Cooper is one and is why he changed his name.
