Definition of agent
1. a person who does business for another person : a person who acts on behalf of another
2. a person who tries to get secret information about another country, government, etc.
3. a person or thing that causes something to happen

Hitler wasn't a Zionist, but he unwittingly did their bidding. Without the rise of antisemitism in Europe, Zionism would have remained a fringe movement with little support. Hitler raised the volume of antisemitism to 11, playing right into their hands.

But many prominent British and American politicians were Zionist agents by the first (and possibly second) definitions.

If that makes you an "agent" then every unsuccessful politician is an "agent" of the forces he or she is fighting against. The Czar was a communist "agent", because his ineptitude caused the downfall of the Russian Empire. So was Hitler, because his failed invasion of the USSR led to Stalin's expansion of Soviet power. Meanwhile in Tokyo we had Red China "agent" Hirohito.

I think in this sort of context that's not a sensible use of the term "agent".

Nonsense. Only those whose actions advance the cause of their 'enemies' are agents.

Hitler didn't just lose to the Zionists, he gave their cause an enormous boost. He murdered all the moderate Jews who were happy living in Europe, radicalizing the rest and justifying (in their minds) their goal of taking over Palestine for themselves.

I don't believe that Hitler deliberately set out to do this, nevertheless it was the (predictable) outcome of his actions. IOW, he was an unwitting agent of Zionism. I doubt that CTers are using the word 'agent' in that sense. However I can understand why some may think it is possible that Hitler was consciously working for the Zionists - since others were.

But if Hitler was a secret Zionist, how could he do such horrible things to his own people?

That is a hopeless muddle. He intentionally supported Zionism? If so, he was its agent. If not, not. Nothing else makes sense.
