It's a lie, but it's interesting to see how deniably it was crafted. He never says that he believes it to be true. He merely said that he read something from California that says this. And he probably did.

Let's grant you the premise for arguments sake. What can we conclude from that fact: The statement is fatuous and Rick Santorum is a monumental idiot.

Hey, since he's up for playing the carnival geek here are some other things that are found in sources he could read...

• I read that aliens abduct people and anal probe them.
• I read somewhere that vaccines cause autism.
• I read somewhere that 9/11 was a hoax.
• I read somewhere that magnets can cure disease.

If you ask me, "hey, I was wrong" is a much better strategy. What do you think?

Kids started learning more about Native American cultures, the Spanish settlements in the Western US, slavery and AA culture. Events and people that were hardly mentioned in their parent's history books got more attention. Including events where the white english speaking people were not exactly on the side of the angels. Conservaties starting complaining that liberals were rewriting history and have been expanding on that theme ever since.

I think nothing will happen, and he'll get to have things both ways: a cheering point for his followers in his speech, and the ability to tell himself that he didn't lie.

I'm happy to grant that. So long as we agree that Santorum is a liar or a monumental idiot. I don't like dichotomies but I can't think of an option I've excluded. I suppose mentally ill is a possibility.

I remember Kilbourne as well, but I still thought it was between 10 and 15. I just checked Wiki and you are right. I remember the 10 year anniversary show and didn't think it was over 5 years ago.

I liked the way Kilbourne ended the show with the questions. I didn't think Stewart was going to cut it. Boy was I wrong. And I'm glad about that.

University of California San Francisco is a medical school. As such, it does not have general history courses. UCSD does have a course on the History of Health and Social movement in America, and one on the History of American Medicine.

With the exception of UCSF, every campus in the UC system offers multiple courses on US history.

More likely it was pure invention. Created with the goal of provoking outrage over liberal meddling.

Right wing pundits have been telling their followers to distrust the "mainstream media" for years. As this idea has taken root, these same pundits find they can create claims out of thin air and have their followers accept them as gospel. Media sources that point out the claims are false are dismissed as part of the great liberal media conspiracy. Whatever Limbaugh, Beck or Hannity say has become the definition of truth.
