History not offered in California according to Santorum

It would appear things have changed drastically in the California university system since I was in it. Back then we had to take multiple history classes including courses on both US history and California history (it's mostly about gold and racism towards the Chinese). But Santorum has revealed something shocking: no longer do they teach US history there!

Well blow me down. They went from requiring it to not even offering it?

Does he even have fact checkers on his staff? First he thinks the Dutch are murdering their elderly and now he thinks the most prestigious state university system doesn't even offer courses on US History?

The linked article is unfortunately a very poor rebuttal. It focuses on the UC system and shows that they all have US history requirements. However, they are not the only state universities in CA. As in my earlier post, I link to my school, which was part of the CSU system.

According to this site, though, they also do have a requirement that is 'American Institutions', which is either US history, or Poli Sci. While this was some time ago IIRC, I actually graduated without taking a US history course (I took the US Government course instead to fulfill the requirement). However, US history was definitely available.

I see that even my alma mater, Humboldt State University has a Department of History. Of course it's probably all about drugs, socialism and Monkeywrenching. For those of you who don't know California the culture of Humboldt is similar to Berkley, just not as uptight.

Well I took both US History and Poli Sci. Both classes go over quite a bit of history. At my school you needed to take at least two history courses but Poli Sci could be substituted for one of them.

My experience did not reflect this. My English Lit instructor, on the other hand, was about as flaming Leftist as you could hope to find.

Are you asserting this claim to show that Mr. Santorum was speaking figuratively when he said that they don't even make American history courses available to students or are you asserting this claim because you think it is is in some way relevant to the discussion or are you asserting this claim because you are glad that the history courses are not available (better to have no class at all than to have a radically-left inaccurate class).
