History not offered in California according to Santorum

20 years ago, I attended a US History class at my alma mater, the University of Texas. Just another reason Texas is awesome! Suck it, California!

p.s. I also took a US History class at UC Santa Barbara the previous year, but that was so long ago it's probably not relevant.
Congrats on continuing education. :) Then again, if Santorum is correct perhaps you are having delusions.

On the other hand, maybe he is trying to show that fact checking is for elites and not for down-to-earth Americans.

It's a matter of what's in his heart. He's a strong pro-lie person.

Has anyone found out yet where Santorum is even getting these crazy ideas? I'm actually somewhat curious. I am pretty sure it's not the same place where Michele Bachmann (another person prone to mindlessly repeating anything from the internet that supports her worldview, no matter how clearly ridiculous it is) read about Obama spending $200,000,000 a day in India.

I was recently away from the city and listening to local radio stations. They're nearly all whackdoodle religious stations with a strong political bent. I'd say *that's* where he gets at least some of his ideas.

Though someone said he got the nutty claims about euthanasia in the Netherlands from Reader's Digest, which also sounds like a likely source.

FWIW, Bachmann's source was usually what some lady in a crowd once told her.

Do most American universities require you to take a course in history, regardless of what degree you're trying to get?

When I got my BSc, I needed three arts options, one of which had to be English Lit, and one of which had to be either Russian or German.

History, Yes. US History, not necessarily. Individual institutions do have some latitude and often offer many course that could complete the requirement. I have never heard of a case where US History was not one of the options, but many where it was not a strict requirement.

Holy crap.

How in the hell can he say things like that?

What I love even more is how his representative, when pressed on the issue, just kept repeating the same talking point in ever-more condensed form, despite the fact that it didn't come close to answering the reporter's questions. I get the feeling that if he had asked her a few more questions, her answers would have come out like:

"Strong pro-life! Conception! Natural death!"

"Prolifeconceptionnaturaldeath!"

[smoke coming from her ears] "Prlcnspnrrrll..."

Then her main logic board would have overheated and she would have just toppled over.

It would appear things have changed drastically in the California university system since I was in it. Back then we had to take multiple history classes including courses on both US history and California history (it's mostly about gold and racism towards the Chinese). But Santorum has revealed something shocking: no longer do they teach US history there!

SANTORUM: "I was just reading something last night from the state of California. And that the California universities – I think it’s seven or eight of the California system of universities don’t even teach an American history course. It’s not even available to be taught."

Well blow me down. They went from requiring it to not even offering it?

Does he even have fact checkers on his staff? First he thinks the Dutch are murdering their elderly and now he thinks the most prestigious state university system doesn't even offer courses on US History?

It's a lie, but it's interesting to see how deniably it was crafted. He never says that he believes it to be true. He merely said that he read something from California that says this. And he probably did.

It's hard for me to believe that that level of misdirection is unintentional.

It varies but, yeah, a course in US History is one of the core requirements most Colleges and universites have for a degree.

I read somewhere on the internet that rick santorum is really really stupid and arrogant.
