Herman Cain leads by 20 points!

Yes, and the AMT affected less than 200 filers when it was introduced in 1969....
Fine, so when you posted...

The average guy isn't impacted today. But some years in the future, he would be impacted if the threshhold isn't adjusted to inflation.
Sounds right. I'll try not to fail so badly next time.

No, you do not. The very point of a flat tax is that it is "flat".

Further, the argument doesn't just go away because you said "horse hockey". I explained how and why total taxes paid on a consumer product would be less, and therefore why the item would cost less when a poor person bought it. That can be easily checked.
Bull feathers. THe poor spend nearly all of their income. All of their income would be taxed.

A retired person is not placing the burden on government that a gsazilionaire does. Why does the rich slimeball get out of paying his share?

I might should have added some qualifiers and been clearer.

But I always view the effect of a tax as a "tomorrow thing", eg sort of a 10 or 20 year view. Or even longer.

The reason why this is the only correct way to look at a tax is because those are similar time frames over which it is intended to extort revenue. So anytime they tell you the effect on say, next year's tax they are flat out lying to you. Anytime they don't tell you how inflation is handled relative to the thresholds they are conning you. And the best con games are when they paint the rosy pictures of "what you'll get back".

Bull feathers. THe poor spend nearly all of their income. All of their income would be taxed.....

True.

But everything they buy is taxed multiple times NOW.

You can't just ignore that.

Well, then again....I guess you COULD ignore it....

BUT...Saying "bull feathers" does not prove your argument any more than "horse hockey". Let's have a real argument, drongo!

:)

(I THINK I'm safe using "drongo" unless we got an Aussie mod around here, anyway, just kidding)

Appeal to emotion noted. Medical bills suck, but the rent and utility bills still come due, oh and the cost of running the government too.
The claim of people dying if they have to pay a 9% sales tax is an unsupported claim, and an appeal to emotion fallacy.
Go back to #285. Tricky argued for tax breaks for people with medical bills. I argued against it say that the flat tax should be applied without exception and it went from there to his lame appeal to emotion, "sentence poor people to death" statement.
Honestly, if you can't follow the discussion, you should hang it up, and that makes it number three.

This sounds a lot like suggesting that poor people may have to choose between paying their medical bills and paying their rent and taxes.

How is that fair? Do poor people have less of a right to shelter and health simply because they're poor? I'm not suggesting that we give them million-dollar mansions and the best doctors in the country, all on the government's dime, but geez...

Hog snot. How many times has the squash that I bought at the farmer's market been taxed? Why would I gladly suffer that blithering idiot to put a tax on it now?

I do not pay a federal sales tax on the plasticc rap that I buy to store my beans and grains. If it is imported from China, there has not been even a significant tariff paid on it. What the creepy old pizza peddler is proposing is to tax stuff that I need so that rich parasites such as he do not have to clean up the mess they made of this country, and it makes me sick.

Nobody has a job today because the bean-couinting dork cut back the staff at Godfathers. Fewer people are, in fact, working after his kind get through turning a company around.

Cain is bad for America.

Depends on whether it was a black market purchase. If so, there was no tax on it. If not, then the farmer's taxes paid on his income tax are part of your price.

Yes you do. You pay for the tax on profit of the import firm, and the tax paid by distribution, and the tax paid by the retail store that sold it. They are not "federal sales taxes". But they are taxes which go away under Cain's plan.

Balderdash. If he is not making more than the threshold amount, he isn't paying income tax now. And I would still be paying taxes under old tofu-for-brains' tax plan because now there would be no lower threshold. You are making no sense here.

You mean those drongos drop off the tax rolls? How? They still have to pay taxes, unless that moron finds a way for them to wheedle out of it.

Nein, nein, nein is a bean counting jackass' Three Card Monte scheme.

Sorry, I'm feeling too lazy this morning to disentangle that *************** of logical parsing.

Yes, vegetables bought on the black market. You've not heard of that?

A 200x200 piece of land at 80% raised beds could do $10-20k per year. Not bad if no taxes were being paid....

200x200 miles? That's a HUGE farm. They probably have their own market of whatever color they like.

I think Romney did an effective job of dismantling Cain last night. The latter's apple and oranges analogy was extruciating.

Federal, no; state and local can, for example, Hawaii.

Around here it's pretty common to see guys in pickup trucks by the side of the road with watermelon, oranges, apples, etc for sale.

Welcome to black market vegetables.

i'm not convinced.
show us a link to laws forbidding the sale of 'black market veggies'.
i do not believe there is such a thing, unless america is more despotic than i believe it to be.
farmers in canada are allowed to sell veggies at the side of the road.
prove to me that this is illegal in ameica,,,and amaze even me.
