Help! A Numerologist is Coming to Town!

Well, we are all entitled to our opinions. That "all other things being equal" part is important, I think. :)

I guess you can believe this nonsense, but your opinion is wrong. The facts just contradict them. Education is not an indicator of intelligence, and "all other things being equal" doesn't even apply.

I didn't like you when you posted as Who, and I still don't like you. Go meditate on that.

So why doesn't it apply Thai?

Well I like you! *smooch* So there.

I will go meditate though. Thanks!

Good gravy, people. As soon as I leave, that's when all the postings go up, huh?

So here's the scoop: I printed out about fifty little flyers that I Illustrator'ed, with some basic facts about Numerology (properly cited), along with a picture of J.A. Paulos's Innumeracy and one of Newmerology.

I showed up at Borders about 30 minutes beforehand: there are maybe twenty chairs there. Two old (sorry, they were old) and fat (as in actually morbidly obese) women were waiting.

I read about orangutans and lizards while watching all this.

At 6:45, Newmont shows up. He is, hands down, the sleaziest looking guy I had seen all day. Inexplicable oily & orangish tan. Nice suit, though. Newmerology must be lucrative. He starts handing out some sort of worksheet type paper to the now nineteen women and one man.

The whole mise-en-scene is just grim and unpleasant. The small crowd and the laminate-over-plywood table and me skulking behind a copy of
Spiny-Tailed Agamids
and the mostly obsese crowd then fanning themselves with the worksheet and it's really depressing and I think about just going home.

So anyway as soon as Newmont starts talking to some Borders employee I start handing them the flyers, doing the whole "these are for you as well" kind of thing, "pass them to your neighbor" and so on, and I leave the rest on Newmont's lecturn/plywood-laminate table. Pretty much everyone seems really confused and is looking at one and then the other and then finally one woman in the back gets it and smiles at me and laughs understandingly and I can't for the life of me figure out why she's there.

Then I left. I'd heard enough of Newmont that morning.
I for one think you did a fine job, if I wasn't so lazy, and had the oppurtunity, I like to think I'd step up to the plate in such a way.

You did not heckle, you did not cause a scene, you just tried to counteract misinformation with information.

Well done, in fact, I think you did such a good job, I'm gonna give you a hats off. :th: I normally don't give a hats off to people, but I feel you earned it.

Enjoy basking in the glow of Squishy's approval, most people find the experience vastly over-rated, but what do they know? ;)

So why doesn't it apply Thai?

Because education is only one way a person gains knowledge. That knowledge can be gained through education, but also experience and social interaction. Education is only one way to learn. Education is not gained so much because of intelligence, but because of location, social standing and motivation. "All other things being equal" just doesn't make sense, because if all other things were equal, then the education will be the same. The more intelligent person will be equally as educated as the less intelligent one.

Hate to interrupt the "blast TC/Whodini" slugfest, but I have to ask: Did anyone read the reviews of this book on Amazon?

My husband has a few habits that drove me to distraction on occasion. I did his numbers and found out that habits were part of his pattern. It has made a HUGE difference in how we relate.

Gee, I can understand how, before numerology, you wouldn't have understood that his habits were HIS HABITS! Who'd a thunk?

Calculating my numbers using Nick's directions has pinpointed my personality to a tee, and it has also brought to light some of the less obvious trends in my life. For example, I have been drawn to certain personalities (27/9's to be exact), and that is because I am a 43/7. However, for me, I prefer someone with a slightly different compound number to mesh with me! So, now I have the tool to assist me in my relationships, both personal and business wise. All I have to do is figure out the Newmorology Birth Path number for the other person, and I know how the numbers relate to each other and what to expect in the relationship, and how I can best serve that relationship.

I'm more of a 7-11 guy myself. You can best "serve our relationship" by getting me a Slurpee.

I own a number of books on numerology, astrology and the like. But this is one of the few books I own that actually seems to be written for present day life. Not only is it accurate, it covers the stock market, business relationships, and relationships of all types. Most surprising was the quality of the writing. Any numerology book that makes comparisons to a David Lynch movie has my vote!

"I am not an animal! I am a 43/7!"

OK, back to your regularly scheduled dismemberment...

Sheesh, juryjone! Can't you read? She didn't say anything so silly as "his habits were his habits". That would've been tautological! Sheesh. She clearly said "part of his pattern". Quite different. Very clear. Not taut-a-whatmacallit.

Here is a GREAT hint for the future, Einstein. Make sure to remove the link from your post next time. All anybody had to do was see your link when they replied:

http://www.gypsymoth.ento.vt.edu/~sharov/PopEcol/lec2/eqcorrel.gif

and keep removing end terms until they reached the ecology page http://www.gypsymoth.ento.vt.edu/~sharov/PopEcol/. Then simply click on the "Elements of Geostatistics" link, to find your formula about 25 lines down.
Here's a hint for you: If you are trying to prove that you actually have degrees and knowledge in a certain area, and people are accusing you of just ripping your answers off the net, don't tell them that you figured out how to answer their questions without any knowledge or degrees, by ripping the answer off the net.

Just some friendly advice.

Alright, Thanz. You're the first one who got the point of that exercize. Congratulations!

Given our past history, I cannot tell if you are being sarcastic or sincere. Please enlighten me.

I'm being sincere, Thanz. That was the point of the exercize. High-five.

Oh c'mon Thanz. I've simply showed that Bill's posting of that picture was silly and an extremely OBVIOUS tactic.

T'ai Whodini is a PRIME example that education (if he really has the named degrees) is not an indicator of intelligence.

That is interesting considering I am answering all their questions correctly.

I guess Ken is a PRIME example of cognitive dissonance. ;)
