Hello from a non-skeptic

FSM and shandyjam, thanks for the kind comments. What can I say? I saw an empty niche and filled it! Sadly it doesn't look as though Charles will be coming back to challenge my discoveries, indeed I doubt if he's even bothered to read them.

I found the poll very confusing, but maybe that's just me.

The reported past lives that are of famous people (9.3%) and the total that are famous or associated with a 'well-known tragedy' (15%) are orders of magnitude higher than you would expect from a random selection of all lives from the past.

However, the poll is of a self-selected group of reincarnation enthusiasts, so it may say more about the members of the forum than it does about past life memories in general.

Niggled at or no- I'd like to see him back here.

So would I, especially if he's willing to accept that he was mistaken. I find it desperately sad that people waste years, if not decades, of their one and only life chasing the woo.

I am somewhat intolerant of those who are skeptical simply for recreation, the process seems so negative and destructive, it's "sport" eludes me. And I suppose that's what prompted my "relishing in the stupor" quote that has been proudly bannered on another forum. I regret that comment simply because my intent was negative, and it was not constructive to either view point. I tip my hat to Garrett and dlorde for their demeanor here. Your presence, mixed with your understanding and tolerance of our beliefs, are welcome here. http://www.childpastlives.org/vBulletin/showthread.php?p=200149#post200149

I clicked on your link and the really hot Sunniva quoted me on that page and said:
Sunniva:
It annoys me that people, who believe in reincarnation are generally believed to be (and I quote from the JREF-board): "damaged on some level" and "people with a precarious hold onto and shutting out reality".

How can we change that image? As a serious researcher in my scientific field with a high level of education, I feel quite insulted of getting such a generalizing label stuck on me. However, I'm not blind to the fact that it's very easy for people to think that just because we believe in one intangible issue we must all be worshiping all kinds of crazy ideas (I found one article online putting reincarnation research and UFO abduction in the same category).
Sunniva incorrectly quotes yours truly. I said:
That's brilliant woo. I want to marry her (and it has less to do than you think about her photo ;) You can argue with a poster here but I think the people that run that site know it's all bulloney. I joined that site to lite them up but when you read what they write their sincerity comes across.

I'll have at one screwball who thinks he knows the scientific method - but otherwise you don't want to take away what these people have. Many of these people seem to have a precarious hold on reality. This site has a purpose for people who are damaged on some level. Screwing with them isn't helping anyone.

Sunniva clearly wishes to do research. But if you can't attribute a simple quote correctly you need help. I never said "...and shutting out reality," but now your adherents are running with it.

Some rascal named stardis uses biblical quotes against me...
stardis:Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
and,
Now that members of that site are quoting me (incorrectly) and bashing me I might just reply.

California voted down legalizing marijuana. I may visit Denmark and a simple spanking can make this all right:rolleyes:

This is my favorite quote from the "highly educated" Sunniva:

Sunniva said:
No one here is able to prove scientifically that they're right. Reincarnation is a belief and we believe in it, we believe it's a rational belief, but at the same time are fully aware that some people find it irrational. There are doctors in psychology, who are researching the phenomenom, carrying out research, which is based on statistics. I don't think we could call it 'scientific experiments', because that label might give the wrong impression, but it is a way to investigate this phenomenom in an objective, scientific way - collecting evidence and analysing it, concluding that some people apparantly seem to remember things that they shouldn't be able to. You may dispute the results if you want to, but they still remain a fact.

BTW, registration is now open again at the PLF.

Don't be disrespecting Sunniva or you will answer to me

There are plenty of other woos to disrespect.

O, where is Romeo? saw you him to-day?
Right glad I am he was not at this fray.

Welcome to the fray, Romeo.

I suggest not killing one of her family members... also, try not to tell her she has a precarious hold on reality. Girls don't like that.

I love that we have dueling forums, peeking in on each other. It's like having a sister city in Opposite Universe.

ETA: I guess that means WE would be the Montagues and they would be the Capulets.

I have been a skeptic/agnostic for many years, and a Catholic for many years. I am no longer either; but believe me, the skeptics are MUCH more dogmatic, narrow-minded, and terrified of the unknown. Talk with a disciple of Randi the Magnificent and then with a Catholic priest, and you'll know what I mean.

This is gold. Just Gold.

ETA: That post was from 2006.

Perhaps I had a little too much wine when I wrote my post yesterday.

I was a ground zero member of this fray. Your welcomness is more at issue than mine.

I would never do either.

Not at all. Our website thrives on argument. Their website thrives on agreement.

Your argument is divisive - mine is less

Jeez, Senex. Was just a figure of speech tossed around with a little lame Romeo and Juliet metaphorical dressing...

Wasn't trying to argue anything right then, mostly goofing around and trying to be funny (unsuccessfully, I guess.)

Sorry if I offended.

Wait, are we still joking around? Is this some kind of meta-irony that I'm not getting? I thought Senex was trying to be funny. No? ... I hate the lack of intonation and inflection on the internet ... maybe I should be using more smilies like on the their forum ... :):);):eek::):o ... yeah? YEAH?:boggled::boxedin:

FSM was a member of the Capulet family in a previous life and since he doesn't remember he is doomed to repeat his previous mistakes.

I myself was Yorick and I find it disrespectful to be spoken to as a skull but we all can't be a members of the oh so great Capulet family. Yeah, I have an attitude against FSM because of who he used to be. Wealth and privilege and still copping an attitude.

Was I? Which meta are we in? Oh hell, I can't even keep up with who I am now... I was sure I'm a lady flying spaget monster, but it's possible I switched genders in some reincarnation... that's possible, you know. Scientific Proof: Even though I never should have known to do so... I always pee standing up and steadfastly refuse to ask for directions.

But, I feel like a Montague... mostly because the wealth and the privilege aren't really panning out in this lifetime like one would hope.

Here, this should clear everything right up-
