Helen Thomas - Jews, go back to Germany!

Never understood why people liked her, she was always obnoxious.

*Won't touch the Israel thing with a ten foot pole*

i'd love to hear someone say:

"Jews!! Go back to Morocco and Iraq!!!!"

:)

a good 35% of immigrants to Israel came from the Middle East/North Africa. But no one knows this.

No one knows this?

Well, you do for a start. And I knew this. But you're right if you mean that such things are not very well-known and very rarely make up the simplistic narrative offered up by journalists such as Helen Thomas.

One thing I did not know was that Helen Thomas' family is from Lebanon. Does anyone ever tell her to "go back"? Of course, not. Jews must live in the US or Germany and Poland BUT not in the Middle East. Presumably she can live anywhere she wants.

She's been doing this long enough to earn the nick 'wicked witch of the press'.

Humm, I think I like her. :) Sort of a walking talking political cartoon. Likes stirring the pot just to see what rises to the top. Asked Obama if he knew of any nuclear powers in the Mideast.

BTW, dos she think Canadians, Americans and Mexicans should go back to Europe? After all, this is the Natives' land.

It's sad to end a career on such an unfortunate note, but she really has only herself to blame.

True, but the mainstream media had already ground what was left of their credibility to shred by willingly becoming Obama's PR machine during the 2008 election, so I guess they figured they've got nothing to lose, and might as well make their progressive politics (peace, happiness, expulsion of Jews, freedom, equality, etc.) overt.

Her anti-semitism is apparently well known in Washington press corps circles and gets a wink and a nod for some reason.

At some white house press corps event where they lampoon each other, James Rosen stole the show by hitching his pants to his chest, squinting, and saying like Helen Thomas "Ari... this president wasn't even elected... why is he in cahoots with those murderous jews". This was greeted by great laughter.

Maybe its the huge blind spot the beltway insiders have for each other. At that time, Helen was usually the talk of the town because the Bush admin put her on the back row and wouldn't take her loaded crappy questions.

Obama, appeasing the left wing blogosphere, made sure to laud her in his first press conference as president, where she sat on the front row. You know, so she could ask loaded questions about Israel that edify nothing.

One thing is for sure, I don't think there will be any more of this kind of sycophantic nonsense:

But can you provide a direct quote? I'm not defending her, I just hate paraphrasing as a quote source.

ETA: Found the youtube. Yeah, it's bad. Granted, she started off making valid point that Israel should get out of the occupied lands, but then she extended that to all of Israel and said Jews should disperse to Poland, Germany, America, "everywhere".

I think she stepped in it, big time.

You have to keep in mind that for many people, "the occupied lands" includes Israel.

You have to keep in mind that for many people, "the occupied lands" includes Israel.

That's what I took from the clip posted at the start of this thread. When she said "Get the hell out of Palestine", I'm pretty sure she wasn't talking about the lands that most people call "the West Bank" or "Gaza" or "The Palestinian Authority" or "the occupied territories". I'm pretty sure she meant all of those places, plus that little spot that most modern maps label "Israel".

Unless she said something earlier than that clip, she was talking about eliminating the State of Israel, and sending all Jews who were immigrants or descended from immigrants home.

Also on that note, there is some talk about where the people in Israel came from, mentioning places like Poland. Very few Israelis today came from Poland. Most of the ones who did come from Poland have since died. Most Israelis were born in Israel.

talking about sending the Jews back to Germany and Poland, suggests to me that she wants ALL Jews from the River to the Sea, to go "back where they came from".

"Well this isn’t likely to turn out well for White House Press Corps legend Helen Thomas The senior correspondent to Hearst newspapers was interviewed on camera by Rabbi David Nessenoff of Rabbilive.com (during the Jewish Heritage reception at the White House) and let lose some commentary that is sure to make many wonder if seasoned Thomas might be losing it."

Where has this guy been for the last several decades? Thomas has been the Washington Press Corp's chief distributor of crapola since JFK was POTUS.

"The day Dick Cheney is going to run for president, I'll kill myself. All we need is one more liar." Helen Thomas, 2005, The Hill

“What I really worry about is that I think the bloggers and everyone, everyone with a laptop thinks they’re journalists,” Thomas said. “And, they certainly don’t have our standards. They don’t have our ethics, and so forth. There’s a deterioration,” she continued. “Reporters laid down on the job in the run up to this [the Iraq] war.” Helen Thomas

Bloggers don't have her "standards" or "ethics?" Wow! That's a low bar to limbo under.

"Slate's media critic Jack Shafer, for example, complained that Helen doesn't ask questions, she gives speeches, and that "she ends up taking the air out of the room for intelligent criticism of the president and helps make the press corps look like a Saturday Night Live skit."

Helen Thomas: I'm a liberal, I was born a liberal, I'll be one 'til I die, what else should a reporter be when you see so much and when we have such great privilege and access to the truth?"

CBC Interviewer: "Well, you know, it's interesting because I'm sure that if somebody from the right was sitting here they would say... if you ask the question what should a reporter be they will say, "Oh, I don't know, How about objective?"

Helen Thomas: "You're not asking people not to think not to care are you? But you are asking them to give a fair reporting both sides and so forth and I did it for 57 years I was never, never accused of bias in my copy. But I had a right to be angry and unhappy at the trend that I saw in my country that I was close enough to see."

Helen would fit right in at most universities. In fact, as a guest lecturer, her comments would seem tame by comparison.

Those crazy kids ... they hate the Jews but love the vampires.

Also, regarding Helen saying "“What I really worry about is that I think the bloggers and everyone, everyone with a laptop thinks they’re journalists.” This sentiment always cracks me up. Journalism isn't a serious discipline. Anyone with a student loan and four years to spare can be one.

I can see why she's treated as the local crazy lady, whose sayings are not worth taking too seriously. That is hardly support of her antisemitism. But, I can't help thinking that if she said the same things about Blacks or Muslims or whomever, things would not be so easily winked-and-nodded away.
