Harry & Meghan "Returning to England"

I can't imagine being angry at people I've never met because they a) were born into a job they didn't ask for and then b) don't want to do the job they didn't ask for.

Other options exist...

Not "being angry" at specific individuals, but the whole institution (including the rest of our aristocracy) and how they still warp our society.

Being irritated that none of our news media will just ignore the buggers, but insist on trotting out every little story.

Being annoyed at the sheer hypocrisy, paraded through "friends" in the media, about wanting "privacy", then running screaming to get your "story" or your "truth" out there.

Being annoyed that none of them pay taxes to the same proportion of income as I ever did, like any standard working person (aaaaaah, there's my problem - "working"...).

The options you offer don't mean much to me.

Bringing jam or marmalade to England is rather like taking coal to Newcastle. Imagine trying to trademark a place name, as former cable tv actress Meghan Markle tried to do initially. Unfortunately, she has no training in business and enterprise. She seems to have really thought that all she needs to is slap her fancy heraldry logo and title on the label in her fancy not-caligraphy writing, mark up the price a few notches and - bingo! - she'd be successful. It's a runny disaaaaster, dahling!

You seem really down on the fact that she worked for a living. Successfully.

Doesn't Charles sell food with his labels on it?

Yeah, I just see it all as satire, so I can't help coming across as irreverent. Especially as the UK tabloids are treating the whole thing as a near-constitutional crisis.

He did (Duchy Originals etc), but he's passed that lot on to Billy Boy, as he is no longer a mere duke since he got kingified.

And they are over-priced and the source of mockery for quits a few comedians.

Yep - very profitable it is as well. They are now his son's assets but he has carried on the family tradition of selling jams and other products at exorbitant prices.

How dare someone else in the family try to exploit the family's name!

There's also Royal Warrants that they grant to other companies. Exactly how much money changes hands seems to be a carefully guarded secret, but obviously they don't grant such brand endorsements for nuthin.

I think that is one of the things the grubby money grabbing pair aren't allowed to do, I mean it would seem incredibly exploitative of their position to endorse products and services with a royal warrant for a kick back.... That's only for the royals being paid by the public!

Interesting that Chucky has to get one of his chief flunkies to issue reminders that Hazza isn't a HRH any more.

It's almost like someone expects someone else to make some spurious claims. Or at least spurious implications.

But our decent, honest, hard-working royals wouldn't think such a thing, as they are all as honest as an honest thing...

So Harry and the former cable tv actress Meghan Markle have clapped back and issued a statement from their 'office', saying they were surprised by KCIII's statement and hadn't known of it in advance. BP claim they did get a copy prior to the public getting one. One suspects they didn't get much notice of its content. Then again, Chucky didn't know the pair would be descending on his Kingdom until a couple of days beforehand, so maybe there is some schadenfreude there. 'Private citizens' issuing public statements from their own 'office' 😂 As one does.

Someone has looked into the implications of the HRH titles being 'in abeyance'. Whilst not a Letters Patent, it does mean more than a figure or speech or a pleasantry. HRH is a style which can only be used in limited contexts.

Peerage and Constitutional Law (The Royal Context)The exact quote you provided ("Their HRH styles remain in abeyance") is a prime example of constitutional and peerage custom. [1] (https://lexisnexis.co.uk/legal/glossary/abeyance) In English peerage law, when a title has no single clear owner (for example, if a Lord dies leaving multiple co-heiresses), the title falls into abeyance. It exists, but it is suspended until the Crown decides to activate it for one specific person, or until only one heir remains. [1] (https://lexisnexis.co.uk/legal/glossary/abeyance) In the case of royal styles and titles (like HRH status), holding them in abeyance means the individuals technically retain the right to the title by birth or patent, but the active right to use it is legally suspended by the Sovereign. It is a state of permanent dormancy unless a future monarch decides otherwise.

No wonder Harry is said to be 'furious'.
