Nope. Too busy watching giant planes full of food and medicine with "USAF" stamped on the side landing at Port Au Prince airport on the news to stop and think the way you want us too.

The Haitian people that make it through this trial will hopefully have been lucky not to have someone like you get in the way of what must be done just to satisfy your own selfish desires.

Yes, I do think it's understandable. And reasonable.

I mean, I'm pretty sure the list of individuals and organizations that currently want Haiti to be a worthless pesthole is extremely short. I'm also pretty sure it doesn't include individuals and organizations from the past, who are not presently involved with Haiti (and in many cases are now dead or defunct).

I'm also pretty sure that past screwups are not actually sufficient evidence of either intent to screw up in the past, or of intent, on the part of totally different individuals and organizations, to screw up in the present.

The U.S. has a most dubious history with Haiti. Perhaps that's what Jane was getting at.

How many times in the past has the United States used a natural disaster as a reason to occupy a foreign nation for their own benefit? Sticking with just the western hemisphere, did the U.S. try to take over Central America after Hurricane Mitch (Walmart has factories down there)? Did the U.S. try to grab the rest of Mexico after the 1985 earthquake?

I suggest you read "The Shock Doctrine" by Noami Kein for an understanding of how disaster capitalism exploits crises. The US military is often used to protect "US interests" abroad.

Because of the history of US/Haiti relations, most people in Haiti will have very have mixed feelings if they see armed US troops patrolling their streets.

No offense, I do not think Jane wants deliveries to stop or help to stop- she has not said that, nor has the article she pointed to. And, if you are in these threads a lot, you know I disagree with her on American and American activities a lot. However, if we want Haiti to truly overcome this, help that is not based on controlling the country, standing behind murdering dictators, etc. (all of which the US has done in the past) needs to be provided - like it is right now. Just needs to continue when it is not an emergency.

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, has also expressed reservations.

However, concern about the implications of the US militarization of the the aid effort isn't limited to those with bitter experience of US military power.

Brazil, France, The Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières have also complained:

US accused of annexing airport as squabbling hinders aid effort in Haiti
Priority landing for Americans forces flights carrying emergency supplies to divert to Dominican Republic
