Gun Violence Supported In The USA

Gun Violence Supported In The USA
Nice dishonesty ploy, with your little thread title.

Risk of gun violence accepted in the USA.

That is true.

What you posted, is, maybe, on a charitable Thursday when hungover, a half truth.

Restriction is directed towards civilians with no constructive point in mind. The Brady Bill 'Assault Weapons Ban' is an excellent example.

Except for the fact that it doesn't exist.

The Brady Bill created the waiting period for handgun pruchases that has been replaced by a computerized system while the Assault Weapons Ban heavily restricted the sale of civilianized assault rifles*.

* I guess I never thought about the phrasing of the law's name since I'd referred to semi-auto versions as "assult rifles" since the early 80s and sort of conflated the terms in my head. Now that I've learned the source of "assult weapons" it grates on me.

Common sense wins out at the top rarely, but it does. You couldn't have a better reason to have a night of revelry September 2004 if you were an enthusiast who understood the principles involved.

It makes you consider how incompetent and asinine the political landscape really is. Now dig this:

"On the April 18, 2007 showing of MSNBC's program, Tucker, the conservative pundit Tucker Carlson interviewed McCarthy concerning the Virginia Tech massacre and her proposed reauthorization of the Assault Weapons Ban. He asked her to explain the need to regulate barrel shrouds, one of the many provisions of the Act."

And..

"After admitting that she did not know what a barrel shroud was, she ventured a guess, "I believe it is a shoulder thing that goes up".

People concealed carry for protection. While it can be argued back and forth forever whether concealed laws deter crime, it's NEVER about deterrent for the individual. A gun should never be pulled or brandished to diffuse a situation, they are for when a situation has past that point and your life is in immediate danger.

Uh, no. The quickest way to diffuse a deadly situation is with a gun. It is much better to frighten away a mugger or intruder than wait until you are sure he intends great harm to you and yours. And any intruder who get belligerent after you point a gun at him deserves to be shot. Several times. See the Castle Doctrine.

If you're sitting down to eat in a restaurant and someone comes in to rob the place, an exposed gun serves exactly one purpose: It tells the criminal who to shoot first.

A concealed carry permit does not make one a police officer. Unless some maniac actually starts shooting people in your public restaurant, only a fool would decide to pull out a gun and play Dirty Harry. But, if the robber is a homicidal maniac, my hope would be that every person in that restaurant is packing heat.

;)

It puts you in a gray area you really don't want to be in. Personally I'm not leaving it up to lawyers, so if I have options that include running away or otherwise avoiding the situation that's the direction I go in (and the direction our CWP instructor was very clear about).

I pull a gun, the only way someone walks away unscathed is if I miss... and I don't miss.

The best instance of that is an elderly Marine who was in a Subway a few months back (it was during a great week for aged Marines, another beat a pickpocket within an inch of his life until a store owner saw what was happened... then joined in). Guys came in to rob the place, he didn't draw. It was once they started herding people into the back room and he felt legitimately threatened that he pulled his gun.

I bet he had offers from friends wanting to take him out to eat for the next year. :D
