Good ol' American road rage gunfight

Four stories: the father (the guy who told story #3 above) now says that the family knows the suspect, and that the suspect already knew where they lived - which seems to contradict his earlier claim that the victim and her son went to "move the car so the shooter wouldn't know which house" was theirs.
There were multiple people in the car, including the guy they knew. We don't know that they knew the guy they knew was in the car prior to his arrest. I heard a second person has been arrested now?

I'm waiting for the part where the daughter had a relationship with the shooter.

+1

That sounds more plausible than the ever-changing stories we are getting.

Pa now says Ma herself had a relationship with the shooter...

"She was really good to him," Meyers continued. "She fed him, she gave him money, she told him to pull his pants up, and to be a man more times than I can count."

Along with the times he can't count, there might have been times he didn't know about, when she told him to be a man before she told him to pull his pants up.

Whatever. It ended with a good ol' American style shoot-out in the driveway, and now these hicks are on TV to give us our lulz. Happy happy guns guns!

I guess my biased worldview is distorting my perspective beyond all reasonableness. I don't see this thread as a gun thread, I see it as a get-stupid-drivers-off-the-road thread.

This story is just one more reason for the states to pay hundreds of millions of dollars to upgrade drivers licensing facilities. Everyone applying for a license (or renewing a license) must spend at least five minutes in a driving simulator. The driving test would include a short trip on a divided highway. People who cannot merge properly or who slow down to see an accident on the other side of the highway fail. Obviously, such a test must include an idiot driver who cuts off the testee before speeding off. People who break the speed limit trying to catch the idiot driver fail the test.

I figure such testing would produce an immediate 20% failure rate and that the long term results would be 9-15% of the current population never getting a license again. One could then easily keep licensing facilities open 24/7. I would expect a 10-20% drop in auto fatalities, auto-accident hospitalizations, and auto-insurance claims. Perhaps followed by a 10% reduction in traffic jams and an associated 5% reduction in lost productivity.

[personally, I would have instructors call the cell phones of people in the driving simulators and then fail them if the cell phones were answered (or maybe shock the driving test subject). Although I could, as a compromise, instead have a figure run out from between parked cars and see if Mr. Cell-Phone could stop in time.

Imagine a country in which everyone on the road knew how to parallel park, to pull over as an emergency vehicle approached, to stop behind a school bus with flashing lights, to wait for a train to pass instead of pulling around the train crossing gate, to follow at an appropriate distance, to make a left turn, and to give pedestrians the right of way. Call me crazy, but what if it worked?]

Heh.

This is a bit of a derail, but I have a Motorola cell phone, and I accepted a service it was cramming down my throat, for "Travel Assist" or some such thing.

Now, every time I approach a road hazard, my phone beeps with a text message, alerting me to that fact.

What will they think of next?

Judging by the players I've seen on TV - dad, neighbors, etc - it's worth remembering that not all trailer trash lives in trailers.

Come on now they are not trailer trash any more. Trailers are a thing of the past they are now single and double wide manufactured home. or as some like single and double wide mobile homes. They are now to be PC, called people of unwanted stature.

I think it's sad when so many people focus on the violence instead of the (probable) sex. He's 19! He was probably doing a mother and daughter! Possibly at the same time!!

Exactly we would probably not even be talking about this had he run her over with a car or stabbed her. But a gun draws out the anti gun nuts like honey does for ants

It seems like there is a lot of history between this family and this kid. There is a ton of baggage there. One thing this incident is not is a sudden confrontation between strangers. Obviously stuff has been brewing for a long time, and now it's come to a head. I get the impression that the police are seen as ineffective in this community. Nevertheless, the mother should have just called the police if she felt threatened. I think the moment the initial encounter occurred, she knew exactly who she was dealing with.
