God's purpose

I agree to some extent. The Japanese don't distinguish a difference between the color of the blue sky and green trees. I'm not certain if this is cultural or truly something to do with the color receptors in the eye.

At any rate, it was an example that I used to explain how I felt we might evolve spiritually. Perhaps we don't have the ability to sense a deeper level of reality just yet. The other alternative is that we don't have an adequate word/concept to recognize anything more than we do at the this point in our evolution.

Q was a super evolved energy being on Star Trek that played God with the Enterprise. He was creating havoc until his parents showed up, evidently he was a baby.

Two things. First, just to clarify, "Que?" is Spanish for "What?" and sounds more like "K" when spoken. Chances are that you already knew that, but... just in case. Second, I think you might be mistaking a bit about "Q." In particular, I think I remember the episode that you're referring to, but I'm pretty sure that the baby in question was never actually identified as one of the "Q." It might have been one, but it was fairly likely not one. The Star Trek Universe had a number of fairly powerful creatures and races, after all. Q are actually known starting with TNG's Farpoint episode and became an occasionally recurring race in TNG and later series.

Fairly certainly cultural. Blue and green were apparently classified as different shades of Ao, even though the same general word was used to refer to both. So, the evidence seems to be in favor of at least most of them being able to distinguish the colors in the first place.

Maybe.

Maybe.

If you want to find out about your colour perception, take the test.

I had mentioned Q in an earlier post but wasn't sure exactly what RK was referring to. I distinctly remember Troi talking about Q being a kid.

I was repeating what my Sociology professor said it about in class which was about 33 years ago.

The primary Q that they interacted with in TNG could easily be described as acting a bit like a kid, among other less than respectful terms, and had a kid at some point. Maybe that has some relation to what you remember? Incidentally, the specific case I was recalling was Trelane.

;) Pretty sure that Jodie's comment was intended as humor.

I scored pretty well, surprisingly. I got an 8, which put me at about the top 10% to 15% for my age & gender.

In the interest of full disclosure, I have an unfair advantage having worked for 10 years in the print industry where colour matching was critical. It is true that one can learn that ability. X-rite is the company which supplied all the colour calibration equipment, which is how I happened upon that site.

:D Practice definitely helps, with pretty much anything!

So it seems this thread is running out of steam so I thought I would sum up what was revealed.

I had hoped, but not really expected, some input from theists giving a take on what they thought there god was all about in doing everything. Sadly the input from theists was somewhat lacking in this regard.

The best we got was that "God wanted us to know him" , which I thought was somewhat lacking in substance.

Interestingly there were a number of theists that participated but dropped out after some time. Defeated, maybe. If so I tip my hat to other atheists who have contributed.

If there was (is) a god-creator...imagine being a disembodied, pure and perfect awareness, existing for eternity in absolute isolation from anything but itself to be aware of- an action of self-regard without beginning or end, untainted (and unrelieved) by context that could give meaning to the idea of "self." Anyone who has ever stacked brittle hours tossing and turning in the fever of insomnia can grasp the thin edge of the feeling, of an eternal and breathless insomnia, but without even the mitigation of tossing and turning, since there's no body to toss and no space to turn in.

"Let there be light!" was a desperate blurt, a plea more than a command; creation an act of necessity in relief of an isolation and boredom so complete as to satisfy one definition of insanity. Now he's just trolling...

You have to feel sorry for such a god.

And that point sure, but then he pulls crap like ordering rape victims to marry their rapists if the rapist has enough silver coins to pay the fee and all that empathy goes out the window.
