Cont: Global warming discussion V

Canada - another one of those Liberals and their empty promises ...
As an executive and central banker, Mark Carney was a leading voice urging the business world to fight against climate change. As Canada’s prime minister, he is doing everything he can to pump more oil and gas. Since taking office in March, Carney dismantled many green policies introduced by his predecessor, Justin Trudeau. He scrapped an unpopular consumer carbon tax, paused a 2035 electric-vehicle mandate and enacted a law giving his cabinet authority to override environmental rules for infrastructure projects like oil pipelines.
You don't understand. As prime minister his primary responsibility is to the people - ie. to do things the people want. What are those things? Not unpopular taxes, not EV mandates, not blocking important infrastructure projects. He's just doing what we want!

We all want the government to make global warming go away, but not if it impacts us - even if in the long run it will be better for us. Nobody likes taxes. Nobody likes being told what products they can buy. Nobody likes being inconvenienced. And we vote. We select politicians who kowtow to our wishes in order to stay in their jobs, even if that means they do the wrong thing. This is how democracy works!

"But I didn't vote for that!", you retort. That may even be true. But most of your peers did. They were all for fighting climate change until they heard that their taxes would go up, or some goods would become more expesive, or their next car would have to be an EV. They thought the government could just wave its magic wand and make other people pay for it.

But is it really true that you didn't vote for that? If 'you' (ie. a Canadian) voted for Mark Carney, what were you actually voting for? The Liberal Party of Canada. What were you expecting from them? To support liberalism.
Liberals... generally support private property, market economies, individual rights (including civil rights and human rights), liberal democracy, secularism, rule of law, economic and political freedom, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, and freedom of religion.
Mark Carney isn't doing anything you wouldn't expect from the head of the Liberal Party. He also isn't doing anything you wouldn't expect from a former economist, investment banker and Governor of the Bank of Canada. Neither would you expect someone who was deep into carbon trading schemes to favor radical global warming solutions. You would actually expect someone who put the economy first and the environment second, like most voters do. Don't blame Mark Carney for doing what the people want.

I fear we have reached a tipping point and this may be the end of winter in the Rockies, a shift to absurd winter warmth that is gonna wreck havoc with the mountain ecosystems.
Local variations are perfectly normal. This isn't Global Warming, it's just weather. :xrolleyes

Say what? It's actually happening in many places around the world, including the Himalayas, Andes, European Alps, East African peaks and even New Zealand? Just coincidence I'm sure, nothing to worry about.

... even New Zealand?

Where December is absurdly cold. We've had temperatures under 10 degrees at night, which is unprecedented in my memory.

And if the cold air is here, the warm air's over Antarctica.

Nothing to worry about, I'm sure.
