Climate change forecast: More intense deluges and downpours Down Under
Intense rainfall will intensify by 11-30 percent even if world meets Paris Agreement targets
Date:
January 17, 2017
Source:
University of New South Wales
Summary:
Expect strong increases in rainfall during extreme precipitation events in Australia as a result of global warming making Dorothy Mackellar's now classic view of Australia as a country of droughts and flooding rains truer than ever.

Yes, it's official.

https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/global/201613

With the contribution of eight consecutive high monthly temperature records set from January to August, and the remainder of the months ranking among their five warmest, 2016 became the warmest year in NOAA's 137-year series. Remarkably, this is the third consecutive year a new global annual temperature record has been set. The average global temperature across land and ocean surface areas for 2016 was 0.94°C (1.69°F) above the 20th century average of 13.9°C (57.0°F), surpassing the previous record warmth of 2015 by 0.04°C (0.07°F). The global temperatures in 2016 were majorly influenced by strong El Niño conditions that prevailed at the beginning of the year.

This marks the fifth time in the 21st century a new record high annual temperature has been set (along with 2005, 2010, 2014, and 2015) and also marks the 40th consecutive year (since 1977) that the annual temperature has been above the 20th century average. To date, all 16 years of the 21st century rank among the seventeen warmest on record (1998 is currently the eighth warmest.) The five warmest years have all occurred since 2010.

Overall, the global annual temperature has increased at an average rate of 0.07°C (0.13°F) per decade since 1880 and at an average rate of 0.17°C (0.31°F) per decade since 1970.

Regional sea-level scenarios: Helping US Northeast plan for faster-than-global rise
Global sea level could rise by as much as 8 feet by 2100 in a worst-case scenario

Date:
January 19, 2017

Rutgers University
Summary:
Sea level in the Northeast and in some other US regions will rise significantly faster than the global average, according to a new report. In a worst-case scenario, global sea level could rise by about 8 feet by 2100, according to the report, which lays out six scenarios intended to inform national and regional planning.

That starts to feel near time when it gets within the lifetime of people alive now....what changes they will see....maybe.

White House Climate Change page has been disappeared, Federal Agency pages on climate change to follow...

https://www.whitehouse.gov/energy/climate-change
Doesn't mean anything. Every WhiteHouse admin cleans house then later posts their own. Obama did it and now Trump did it.

We will soon find out what Trump will put up to replace it. I am not hopeful based on his campaign speeches and appointments, but I reserve judgement till then.

Most replacements since the start of the internet, have left existing pages up and only replaced others when they have such developed. Disappearing pages is a new precedent.

Regarding climate science there are a lot of people who depend upon government websites for authoritative and official information, this is apparently no longer a valid practice.

I am preparing a Climate Science resource list that will contain links such as this one to the American Chemical Society's Climate Science Toolkit.

Most pages have disappeared. Not global warming specifically.

(that stunt of "the page disappeared" is an book a textbook example of induced inference)

Not to be too pedantic, but the hilited words I have inserted in your last sentence there would be the correct English language expression.

Thanks for all your efforts Alec (assuming that's your name). I, for one, appreciate your posts greatly. Keep it up, and keep your spirits up!

Thank you. Everyone is welcome to correct my English. The problem is I know most correct ways (like textbook), but somewhat I lose contact with all that knowledge all the time.

And my name is Alec Cowan, really. I don't use noms de plume in the Internet. That's why I no longer have a telephone number listed on my name.

That was the first I noticed, and again, this wholesale take down without an updated or replacement section is unprecedented since the existence of such federal websites.

Actually it's merely a matter of looking for a specific site, finding that site gone, and noting it in an area where that notice is relevant. I actually find the disappearance of a lot of pages greatly more troubling than the mere disappearance of the White House Climate Change page, even if they aren't terribly relevant to this thread.

Well, it's Trump campaign "the past goes into oblivion" what he was crystal clear about, and not specifically related to global warming.

I have knowledge of nothing which compellingly contradicts or rejects your statements, at the current time.

The election of Trump was depressing for me, because, among other things, he is a climate denialist. I take it for granted that he will now act as one. I think it is a very logical step for him to take to remove President obama's information, or "propaganda" as Trump would call it, on climate change. The big question is if he will work on defunding research on climate change. I think he will and that congress will gladly help him.

I unfortunately do not believe that Trump will change his opinion on climate change. I think Trump is a cunning but not very intelligent man and he goes by gut feeling. And climate change is not a very intuitive topic. Lots of statistic, numbers and other stuff Trump has no stomach for. And it doesn't help that he is an old man who romanticises the past. I am convinced, that in his mind oil and coal made america great and is therefore the way to make it great again. I do also think, that for him renewable energy is for hippie lefties that hate america and capitalism and therefore bad.

Well Traker,
I said I would reserve judgement until I saw what Trump put up to replace it. He has posted. Not good at all. Seems your premonition was right after all. He seems to be planning a strategy of reducing dependence on foreign oil by increasing dramatically domestic fossil fuel production rather than increasing domestic renewable production. No plan at all for AGW mitigation. And a complete elimination of the Waters of the U.S. rule.

And this is all in the first week of his "glorious leadership." Looks like he will do wonders for uniting (most of) America,... in opposition to his arrogant ignorance.
