Getting fed at TAM 7

Las Vegas local just checking in here to point out that the Southpoint can be 30-40 minutes away from downtown depending on traffic/time of day. There are many many great local restaurants just a few lights down Silverado towards Eastern that you might consider over heading towards the Strip/Downtown.

You may even mull over the possibility of a daily pickup run to that area.

Thai House @ Maryland Parkway & Silverado Ranch
L&L Hawaiian Barbecue @ Serene & Eastern
Ali Baba (Mediterranean) & Jun (Korean) @ Pebble & Eastern
Tay-yo (sushi buffet), Pin Kaow (Thai), Taza (Indian) @ Silverado & Eastern.
Also Chicago dogs, Irish, Cuban, Vietnamese, fondue, In & Out, Greek, tapas, South & Central American, all within 3-4 intersections in that area. Most do carry out & some deliver.

Just a thought for those that are over the gambling thing & just want a variety of food options.

The Salt Lick is in the Red Rock Hotel and Casino, which is in South Las Vegas, off the strip.

^It's difficult to agree with defining the Red Rock as "south."

West-ish? I've only been there once, and since I wasn't driving I don't have a lot of concept of where it was.

Sounds good to me.

If you're out on the strip and want a quick and (relatively) inexpensive meal, try Earl of Sandwich in the mall adjacent to Planet Hollywood (east side of strip, slightly across from Bellagio). You can get a very decent sandwich for about $6... one of the more affordable spots on the strip.

For quick and cheap, I also like to hit Fatburger (just north of MGM), or even Chipotles (beneath the McDonalds, between Venetian and Harrahs, if I remember correctly).

Can you tell me if there's a churrascaria (I'd be surprised if there wasn't)? Since Luciana won't be attending, I'd like to take Patricio and let him evaluate our version of a carnivores heaven.

There's one inside Planet Hollywood (Pampas).

^^
In order of personal preference:

rumjungle @ Mandalay Bay
Texas de Brazil @ Town Square
Pampas @ Planet Hollywood
Yolie's on Paradise
Samba @ Mirage

Town Square is closest to TAM.

I'm kinda assuming that I'll be able to get some kind of food at the South Point just about any time of the day or night - is that right? I expect that it'll be a bit pricey though.

Yes. Like every casio there's what's basically a diner that's open 24/7. And it depends on what you mean by pricey.

This is Vegas we're talking about. I bet there's a $300 hamburger on someone's menu. :D

Try $5000.

"The FleurBurger is available at Fleur de Lys, a traditional French restaurant located in Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. They’ll even mail a certificate to your home just to prove that you ate the world’s most expensive hamburger.

Texas de Brazil is HQ'd in D-FW and I've been there once. I preferred the picanha at Fogo de Chao, but it was still really good and reasonably priced compared to Fogo. I'm not going to add it to the list, but if anyone is interested, let me know.

Also, for some of the more upscale places, do they have a dress code? I only plan on bringing one pair of long pants and they'll be jeans.

As already mentioned the basic formula for all casinos is steakhouse + seafood shack + buffet + fast food + Denny's-style 24 hour cafe. SP's cafe serves a special Asian menu in the wee hours, which is a bit out of the ordinary, & everything else closes at 9/10pm.

Your other nearby latenight dining options are mostly fast food:

Del Taco across the street
McDonald's @ Silverado & Maryland
Shuck's @ Serene & Eastern (really great seafood 24 hours)
PT's Pub @ Silverado & Escondido (bar food)
Tommy's on St. Rose (chili burgers)

The new M casino further down the strip has a bar up top with a pretty decent but pricey late menu. Had some ok Americanized sushi there a few weeks ago. Menu probably won't last forever; they just opened.

Sounds good, US. Being a prime time carnivore myself, I'd appreciate that.

BTW, here's one of my favorite sandwiches, locally called "churrasco italiano",

LOL. Fast food == oxymoron. The Big Box/chain fast food joints are about the only choice I will dutifully refuse to avail myself of whilst at TAM.

Other than In-n-Out burger (my one fast food weakness, and amongst fast food, it's near the top in terms of eatability and being nice to Earth-ability) and maybe an occasional dog at Costo (there's a sentimental reason behind that), my last fast food was in December 2004 (and even then it was only out of desperation).
