Well, colour me surprised!

The proposed mega-gazillion pound, umpty thousand job, giga-mega-maha battery factory at Cambois will not at all be going ahead, but there might be a computer data centre, which will not bring in anything like the money or the jobs.

Never mind, Northumberland County Council remain absolutely convinced that this proposal will actually work, honest guv, 'cos they are just so good at spotting chancers (seriously, they are utter rubbish at spotting chancers - the stories are legion across the years. All you need to do is say "Jobs! Jobs Jobs!" and NCC fall over and say "Which way do you want us?").

In other local news, The Everso Fragrant Duchess of Northumberland has stepped down as Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland to spend more time coming up with cost-over-run tourist schemes which will be cross-subsidised from Northumberland Estate rents or making TV programmes about said schemes or whatever it is that hereditary billionaires do that they call work.

Farage supporting Truss' call for the anti democratic Supreme Court to be abolished.

I've just seen Liz Truss on the telly complaining that the proposed phasing out of smoking is "unconservative", but that "we should absolutely protect children from damage and danger while they are developing decision-making capabilities". Ms Truss is 48.

Farage supporting Truss' call for the anti democratic Supreme Court to be abolished.

For some reason reason they never seemed to object to the Judicial Committee of the House of Lords, which had the same constitutional role and powers as the Supreme Court, and had judges appointed in essentially the same way.

Some Tory MP or other on the radio this morning saying the investigation in to Rayner must not be done by Manchester Police.
They are in her pocket apparently.

Farage supporting Truss' call for the anti democratic Supreme Court to be abolished.

The Supreme Court heard appeals from the Court of Appeal.
If we got rid of the supreme court the Court of Appeal would effectively be the country's supreme court. Given they apply the same law as the Supreme Court there would be calls for it to abolished. Turtles all the way down.

Farage also supporting Truss' call to get rid of the Office For Budget Responsibility.
Also Civil Service impartiality is anti democratic as it frustrated the will of Parliament.
Top Civil Servants should be political appointments who will implement government policy.

So basically they want the more politicised US system.

Will people not wake up and see what Angela Rayner is really like?

They want rid of the Supreme Court, Office of Budget Responsibility and a tame Civil Service that do what it's told whatever the law says.
They also want to leave the ECHR.

USA is not the country I think they want to emulate. It has more of a 1930s feel to it.

Truss, Farage, etc. are in a bit of a huff, having had their NatCon event in Brussels closed down, or at least reduced in scale, following a complaint to the local police.

True to form, Farage immediately turned it into a spiel about the big had Brussels bureaucrats, and how he's now convinced leaving the EU was the right thing to do.

Teh Graun is having a field day on Truss' book and its "ideas" - too many to mention, but Gaby Hinsliffe and Zoe Williams have had a fine old time.

Really, how the actual **** has anyone ever taken this self-serving intelligence vacuum seriously? (For avoidance of doubt, I do mean Truss.)

Because she's a white woman who modelled herself on Thatcher, and that's all a lot of tories need to hear.

Legit though, as much as Thatcher was a monster the one thing I will always say for her was that she was intelligent and had a certain kind of charisma. Truss is basically a Thatcher cardboard cutout, with the same level of charisma and intelligence as the cutout, not the original.

You forgot to mention how successfully she hid her Irishness, probably her only achievement in her life.

PS I see economic migrant Kemi Bad Enough is deserting the officer corps over the smoking ban bill.

What they really object to is the people's right to hold them to account via judicial review. They're the political equivalent of a stroppy teenager saying, "you never let me do what I want!"
