In other news I have taken advantage of the change in legislation to re-register to vote in my old constituency in the UK. I'm not sure my vote will make much difference as it's in a brown-shirted dark blue part of the country, but I have to try.

Only a handful of the truest blue Tory safe seats are going to be unassailable this time. Even my constituency, Henley, is looking like it could fall to tactical voting.

No point in my re-registering to vote - not even tactically - as my old seat is that of Keir Starmer's. As safe as the safest of safe safetyness even were Thatcher and Boris to come whizzing in with their Union jacks ablaze on the zippiest of zippy zip chords.

Climbing on war memorials is to be made a specific public order offence.

Cleverly said scaling memorials was "an insult" and "cannot continue".

He added that a change in the law would punish activists "insulting those who paid the ultimate price for their freedom to protest".

Under the new guidance, an individual could face three months in prison and a £1,000 fine for committing the offence.

That's going to open a can of worms, what classes as a war memorial & how do they define climbing? Will climbing on the lions in Trafalgar Square be a Go Directly To Jail offence? Near me there's a memorial to the dead of iirc the Boer War that's designed in such a way that it makes a perfect bench to sit and admire the view, so everyone does, are they all to be arrested? (If so Rishi can keep an eye on it personally from Chequers with no more than a pair of binoculars and send his protection squad up to do the honours!)

2nd Boar War. Had it as an answer to the quiz I did last Thursday.

Well Stormont creeps back to life, with a female First Minister and Deputy First Minister to boot.

Huh. I worked with her when she was NI agriculture and rural development Minister. She was in the middle of the devolved administration ministers in terms of ease to work with.

Hopefully she lasts longer in a high profile job than the person whom I worked for almost immediately after that job (Liz Truss).

Sounds right. I was going to say I haven't been up there for a while, but actually Iwent up there with Bert the Wonder Dog on Xmas day. I couldn't drink with Xmas dinner because I had lockjaw, yes really, so I went for a walk instead.

Would that be the one at Coombe Hill? I was intrigued so went and looked it up, and I can see what you mean about the base being an excellent bench to sit on and take in the view.
