Cont: General UK Politics V Suella Strikes Back

Freeman said "We're in danger of making politics something only hedge fund donors, young spin doctors and failed trade unionists can afford to do."

A bizarre case of saying something that's actually mostly true while meaning completely the opposite of what the problem is. Although I'm struggling to see how a failed trade unionist would be so uniquely well positioned.

OT: One of the side effects of de-unionising Britain has been the loss of a key route for people from more normal backgrounds to get the backing and political experience to effectively run as MPs. Hence the current over representation of independently wealthy former Oxford Union members.

I guess the idea is that they want to portray any Labour Party MPs as failures.

That said, perhaps the idea is that successful union leaders are too busy getting rich from a combination of corruption and their members' gullibility.

Perhaps they're failed because the best way to get rich from corruption & gullibility is with the Tories?

Boris spent £7,847 of our money on just booze at his Brexit party that never happened at No 10 on January 31st 2020

It's taken two years to be told this information.

Basicly tory scum trying to make out that representatives of the working people are as bent as he is.

If I was, say, a junior doctor considering the next round of industrial action I might be tempted to write to Victoria Atkins, Sunak and Rhyming Slang pointing out that I need at least £120k per year to live on, citing Eejit Freeman and await the response.

What is it with tories and fiscal irresponsibility? First Boris Johnson complains that his salary was chicken feed, and now it turns out George Freeman resigned as minister because his annual salary of £120,000 was insufficient to cover a £2000/month mortgage.

Rail strikes: trains in south-east England halted as rolling stoppages begin
The DfT said the union’s leadership was refusing to let its members vote on an offer that would result in the average train driver’s salary increasing to £65,000.

Has Mr Freeman been invited to comment on this?

Perhaps he just had trouble working out what £2000 X 12 is.

Luckily, he managed to claim £47k in expenses. Still not enough to tide him over, poor thing.

How lovely! He has a 'constituency cottage rental' (Norfolk Broads?) accommodation expenses claim. So he's not a total newbie. Doesn't seem to have got the hang of it though. Should have employed a couple of close family as 'assistants' on £44K each from taxpayer funds (cf Nadine Dorries), applied for his parents council tax bill (Braverman), not to mention the costs of heating a swimming pool and getting a moat installed. He could have got a peerage with £354 per diem for life. He could have been prime minister for five weeks and entitled to the >£100K salary for life. Heck, he could have grabbed a VIP-lane PPE contract. He is really not suited to the Conservative Party.

George Freeman has a majority of over 20,000 in a constituency that has been Tory for 100 years. If he is thinking about securing a wage for the future, to help pay his mortgage, is he just imagining being in opposition, or having to find another job?

To be fair to the courts one of the comments was grossly inappropriate "**** off out of Manchester" doesn't go nearly far enough. There are lots of places outside of Manchester I would like the Tory scum to **** off out of.

The atmosphere?
