I'm getting ready to watch "Game Change", the dramatazation that focuses on Sarah Palin's part of the last election. I've read conflicting reports on its accuracy and so I'm going to be watching it with a critical eye. Hope some of you political junkies do too, and we'll compare notes afterward.

A dramatization of events in the life of a polarizing and controversial individual?

Where do "fair and balanced" come into it?
Well, Sarah's entourage are going nuckin' futz about it, but from what I read, it treats her with a great more positivity that perhaps is even warranted. I want to see if that is just my bias, or if you bunch of critical thinkers agree.

What sort of orphan blood is Julliane Moore bathing in? She still looks damn good.

I'd have to say it was pretty rough on Sarah. The question is, was it deserved? Based on my recollections of the election, I'd have to say yes. Sarah was extremely unprepared, but great at giving speeches. And yes, Julliane nailed the role.

Maybe Sarah Palin wasn't really as ignorant as the movie made her out to be, but you'd have a hard time proving it by me, based on her activity since the election. Still, the movie was sympathetic to her in portraying her as a very caring person, devoted to her family. Did they do such a horrible job of vetting her? I think there is no question.

She was a polarizing and controversial public figure. This... movie? doesn't seem to have diverged much (if at all) from the notion of Sarah Palin you had already conceived.

So where do "fair and balanced" enter into it?

I felt genuinely sorry for her during the film. She was clearly unprepared for what happened to her.

Also, apparently, McCain has a foul mouth.

Having not seen the film, I can only go by what I've read and the clips I've seen. That said, I'd say she and her acolytes have nothing genuine to complain about. During that campaign (and to this day, for that matter) she did and said profoundly ignorant things that scared the beejesus out of me that the denizens of the States were actually even considering having this person a heartbeat away from the nuclear trigger.

Sometimes the unvarnished truth hurts; shall we just be nice, varnish it and look the other way?

And Hitler was well-known for his concern and care about animals. Shall we rehabilitate his place in history on that hook? [/overthetop]

Indeed. It was an ill-thought-out Hail Mary pass aimed directly into the stands. Thank FSM it missed

Yeah, it was a bit over the top. "Rehabilitate"? I thought it was about dramatizing an event.

I read the book a couple of years ago and was looking forward to this movie, but I think I'll skip it. The Democrat primary was easily the most interesting and entertaining part of the book, and it seems like the producers just decided to cut that part out. Why leave the best part of the book out of the movie?

For those that haven't read it: Obama actually comes off looking pretty good in the book - professional, organized, driven. The Clintons come off poorly, and John Edwards of course is just totally pathetic.

I haven't read the book, though I may do so now. But I don't blame the producers for limiting it to this one part of the campaign. My main problem with books-made-into-movies is that they have to leave out so much important stuff. Better to do it in chapters.

Former Sarah Palin Adviser Says ‘Game Change’ Was ‘True Enough to Make Me Squirm’

One of Sarah Palin’s top advisers said today that HBO’s “Game Change” was “true enough to make me squirm,” despite Palin’s contention that the docudrama about her rise to national stardom during the 2008 presidential campaign was a “false narrative.”

Nicolle Wallace, a Republican strategist and senior adviser to the McCain-Palin 2008 campaign, was one of Palin’s main handlers during that whirlwind presidential campaign four years ago. She is played by Sarah Paulson in the 118-minute HBO film.

I don't have cable, and, truthfully, I'm not sure I would have watched it if I had.

Who cares if it is fair or not? That never seems to have entered into her thought processes when she was in a position of authority in government.

If anything is an outright lie she can sue. Good luck with THAT.

Of course Nicole was the one that came to actually actively hate Sarah over the course of the campaign.
