Former conspiracy believer here

Welcome, Diagoras!!!

I hope you find this forum as lively and interesting as I have.

Your question is a bit unclear to me, but I want to answer accurately.

I'm not trashing this guy's character or insulting him in any way. My opinion is that his OP is a "work" if you will. I suspect he never looked closely at alternative theories, thought them credible, only to change his mind later and see the error of his ways.

If he can't even name the source of the information which changed his entire perspective and convinced him "conspiracy theories" were bs and the official story is conclusive, I doubt such a revelation ever took place.

You're ridiculing yourself here, I guess. I also believed in
Loose Change after seeing it - but I was banned for asking
honest questions many times. So I read about the other
side as well, and they had plausible and factual explanations
in contrast to the Conspiracy-"Facts"-Side.

And no - that doesn't mean that I'm happy with the 9/11
Commission Report or the U.S. Congressional Inquiry.
Anyway: Welcome on Board, Diagoras and Whack01.

T.A.M. was my mentor and tour-guide out of the abyss. I swallowed the LC pill...and it worked for about a month. T.A.M. pointed me here and after a few days of reading through some of the posts I started to weigh both sides. For me, it was the fact that the truthers didn't have any evidence, hard proof, hard data or facts. Every claim was met with rational answers using science, numbers or statements made by relevant experts both here and elsewhere.

Thanks T.A.M.

My name is HyJinx...and I was once a woo, too.

Diagoras, lordofwaffles, Caper, and Whack01, welcome to the forum.

RedIbis, stop picking on the noobs. Give them a chance to catch their breath at least.

:D

Well here was mine: when I visited a Twoofer website and saw the punks there mocking the victims of 911. In particular, the picture of that poor woman standing near the whole of the WTC. The scumbags were wondering if she was "Super Woman" or she was wearing flame retardant armor.

Oh yeah, I also realized what BS the Twoofers were selling when I was watching Loose Change, and Mr. Serious Narrator said, there was no evidence of damaged aircraft at the Pentagon, when they were showing a heavily mangled piece of an aircraft on the lawn. I burst out laughing!

The Trooth Movement has too many despicable cowards, and Internet Tough Guys like these bottom feeders, and I realized what a load of crap they were peddling.

Welcome to JREF and the "I can't believe I used to believe that crap" club Diagoras. :)

Eh. He's just mad that they can't get debunkers to convert.

Anybody ever see a testimonial of someone going from not believing 9/11 conspiracy theories to believing the "truther" way?

Hold your breath: Some days ago I saw someone telling me he
went from being a OCT to believing in the "No-Plane-Theory"... :D

That's like going from Yankees worshiper to Boston Red Sox fanatic at 1 million miles per hour.

I too was a believer in a few CTs and in general woo things Diagoras but this was back around 1980 when I was, cough, your age, cough.

I think it's simply part of growing up, for many of us anyway. Of course when you are on the young side of grown up you are quite sure it's your elders who are all wrong.

The truth movement is basically a bunch of kids at this point.

Welcome all newcomers! :)

And good OP, Diagoras. Welcome to the NWO side

Welcome to the forum, Diagoras. You're not the first ex-truther we've gotten here, by any means, and you won't be the last (I hope.)

I commend you for 1) being intellectually honest enough to realize that the Truthers' story doesn't hold water and 2) having sufficient strength of character to admit that you were wrong. You could have just sneaked in and started posting without mentioning the error of your ways, but you were stand-up guy (or girl) enough to say "I was wrong." It takes guts to do that, particularly in front of a forum full of people who are, shall we say, not terribly receptive to the Truth movement's stuff.

Again, welcome. I think you'll like it here.

I was actually a truther last year. :boxedin:

I was actually a truther last year.

Hey - Einstein was a government patent clerk before he unlocked the mysteries of the Universe.

And I used to believe the US government was capable of governing and that Bush was a competent President. :covereyes

Oh, I guess that would apply to a lot of people actually. I think it's easy for people not schooled in critical thinking, and without emotional attachment to the events of that day, to fall for flicks like Loose Change just because it happens to be their first contact with the conspiracy theory. Some people just aren't involved too much into that kind of thing. My grandma for example told me the other day about some moon hoax "documentary" on TV (yeah, I can't believe that stuff is still around either). I just told her that I've read a bit on the subject and that they didn't know what they were talking about (confirmed by her nodding when I brought forward a few examples of what they might have said), and she trusted me on that.

Now, a testimonial of a debunker to switch sides would indeed be interesting. I suppose it's pretty rare. :)

This is an obvious work. The reasons are too many to list.

Seriously, how do you guys not see that this is just an obvious work?

It's the observation of a transparent attempt at mutual ego stroking.

The tone of the OP and the vague details make your intent obvious.

RedIbis, this is the sort of thing that gives the truth movement a bad name. The moment anything comes up that disagrees with your world view, you cry fake as a kind of instant knee-jerk reaction. You then have to defend your point of view because you've nailed your colours to the mast, but as soon as it becomes clear that you haven't any evidence of fakery, then you start to backtrack as subtly as you can by saying things like,

I'm not trashing this guy's character or insulting him in any way. My opinion is that his OP is a "work" if you will. I suspect he never looked closely at alternative theories, thought them credible, only to change his mind later and see the error of his ways.

So you've now painted yourself into a corner where you're not insulting Diagoras in any way except that you're calling him a liar, and you're not trashing his character except for accusing him of mutual ego-stroking. The problem is, everything you've posted is here for examination. Don't you find this sort of thing embarrassing? I would have thought anybody with a shred of self-respect would feel ashamed to have combined accusation with a retraction of that same accusation in the same post.

Diagoras, welcome to the forum. Consider yourself honoured by Zensmack89; he normally just posts quotations that don't mean what he thinks they mean, and composing a three-word post in which he actually acknowledges ownership of an opinion is probably the most positive response you'll get from him.

Yup exactly, not just the bait, but the tackle too. Google images didn't come up with exactly what I was looking for, but you got the point.

Seriously, how do you guys not see that this is just an obvious work?
Life goes on. And so to make you exist...

Your post are so autobiographical. You unknowingly critique yourself and never know it. Cool.

One day, if you are lucky, you could be cured of falling for the lies of 9/11 truth. You could than explain why, just like this OP. When will it happen for you, Zen, and others. Hopefully it is just a lack of knowledge and judgment that affects you.
