First gay homecoming kiss

I saw this when I read my paper this morning. My first reaction was nausea. (Not from the picture; thinking about all the Republicans fighting to be first in line denouncing it. Just what I wanted for Christmas: Perry, Bachmann, and Gingrich fighting over the chance to mock Americans in return for fundamentalist brownie points.)

I thought about the true, but then again this would be the Republicans bashing not just gays, but the military by direct association. That would be a much better Christmas gift to the Democrats than the latest bout of “brinksmanship” idiocy over the expiring pay tax “holiday.” (Is 2% really that much of a holiday?) After all, DADT ended, many currently serving gays came out, the world didn't end, there weren't mass desertions/resignations, and the commies didn't take over 'merica. All the reports that I heard said it was business as usual for all branches of the military.

Unless an anonymous mother tells one of the candidates that her daughter caught autism from seeing the photo, and now can't have children and is wheelchair bound, I doubt we’ll hear much from the candidates at all.

I was unaware of this tradition. It seems the candidate is picked by lottery.
I wonder if the captain considered vetoing it, decided not to, or simply never considered it.
The latter, I hope.

I saw that. Twenty years ago I'd have said "HUH"? These days its "ho hum".
What? Two bonny lasses snog in public and you think "Ho-hum"?

I hope it will be another decade at least before that happens to me.

Maybe.

But I tend to think of these things from the marketing perspective: a viewpoint becoming part of the culture.

Apart from it being cute, these things chip away at the bigotry.

It really helps that:
1.They're female
2. They're hot

At this stage, that's better marketing than two hairy blokes playing tonsil tennis.

I suspect the command took a similar marketing viewpoint. Better to ease people into acceptance than throw it in their faces.

Isn't that pic just a still from the opening credits of Watchmen?

:)

Can't freakin' wait for the sequel!

ETA: Notice years later she's still with the nurse. And then...

I always liked this opening -- it was very reminiscent of all the crap long-term comic books go through as the years turn into decades, then lots of decades.
