Final Debate Thread

No, no, no. The truth is McCain said, at this evening's debate, that he was categorically proud of all the people who attend his rallies.

ETA: I believe McCain's exact quote was: "Let me just say categorically I'm proud of the people that come to our rallies."

He should be proud of the people who come to his rallies, whats your point?
I see absolutely no point at all when all the information is taken in context.

So are you saying that Mccain has not condemned people at rallies who spoke blatant harmful lies about Obama?

Yes..
or
No...

If you agree he has then why wasnt Obama able to extend him the same courtesy when asked for it. Like i said showed Obama character that he wasnt able. It was a simple thing to do and wouldnt have hurt him in the slightest. Would have made him look more like a man!

If you claim he hasnt then you just arent informed.

I am no fan of the McCain of 2008 (the McCain of 2000 is another story) but that is little over the line.

No, its a fair question. He does look bad. And I look at pictures of him from a year ago, and he looks worse now than then - considerably. But I am not sure how that translates into actual health, but I am sure that it translates into perceptions that he his not healthy.

The very first post debate commerical the aired here was a very negative add from the McCain camp. Since McCain didn't come clean in the manner that would have gotten my vote I've decided to toss him overboard. So Johnny I'll be voting blue with a smile on my face and a spring in my step. Ahh don't let the door hit you on the way out!

Drop the undecided crap, Oneshot.
You are voting for McCain, just admit it.

I have bashed Mccain and voiced my dislike of him in countless threads!

I don't think McCain did well in this debate, but let's be real here: it was pretty clear to me he wasn't including the people he characterized as "fringe" in the group he was proud of.

I almost agree with this statement. There is one person showing up at those rallies, leveling preposterous charges at Obama, that he bears full responsibility for, namely Gov. Palin. His campaign can't control the wackos -- and I'm sure there are nuts at Obama rallies too -- but there is a colorable argument that his campaign is actively encouraging them.

McCain's facial expression when Obama spoke.

BTW, AARP is killing McCain on CNN by running a rotation of commercials of people with health care who are wiped out by health related bills. Plays right to Obama's strength.

I think what really killed McCain today was the topics. No Iraq war. No significant foreign policy.

I don't know about rallies, but a couple of the more extreme Obama supporters here come off as having similair mentalities to the jerks at the McCain rallies.

And the truth is also that he mentioned a couple of times that there were "fringe" people who showed up to both his and Obama's rallies who said things that were inappropriate. I'm pretty sure we can infer based on his statements that "the people that come to our rallies" whom he is proud of did not include the people who he earlier noted were saying inappropriate things.

That was obvious, atleast to me.
Thanks for the reiteration of what i couldnt clearly convey to him.

He clearly didnt include the "fringe" as what he was proud of!

I wasn't trying to be over the line-- my honest impression is he looked like a corpse. His face seemed bloated and his make up looked caked on like for a wake. Honest.

I've been amazed looking at how badly two term presidents seem to age (before and after pics). G.granted, 8 years has passed, but clinton and W, to me, look much worse for the wear.

I dont remember mccain looking like this in the other debates. If the campaign is taking this big a toll, what's his shot of surviving first term?

Of course, this is all just my perception.

Wow...

... And tonight's results have, by a wide margin, made it a clean sweep. Here are the final results of the survey of 638 uncommitted voters:

Fifty-three percent of the uncommitted voters surveyed identified Democratic nominee Barack Obama as the winner of tonight's debate. Twenty-two percent said Republican rival John McCain won. Twenty-five percent saw the debate as a draw.

More uncommitted voters trusted Obama than McCain to make the right decisions about health care. Before the debate, sixty-one percent of uncommitted voters said that they trust Obama on the issue; after, sixty-eight percent said so. Twenty-seven percent trusted McCain to manage health care before the debate; thirty percent said so afterwards. ...

I won't make a final verdict on this until after more polling is out, but at first blush it seems that McCain should have not only left his gloves on but stayed at home reading a good book as well. Ouch.

Perhaps. Who cares? Not the same thing at all.

Yes - correct:

Meanwhile, virtually the entire Frank Luntz focus group on Fox News, which was staged tonight in Miami, said that Barack Obama won the debate. Luntz termed it a "clear majority," but not one person raised their hand when asked if they thought McCain won.
Said Luntz: "None had made a decision to support Sen. Obama before the debate, but more than half supported him after the debate. It was a good night for Barack Obama."

I really hope McCain is okay. Despite all the crap he's pulled this election, I wouldn't wish anything bad to happen to him. In fact, I would very much like to see him stay in the Senate long enough to redeem himself - I want to see McCain 2000 back in the saddle before he retires (or dies).
