No, no, no. The truth is McCain said, at this evening's debate, that he was categorically proud of all the people who attend his rallies.

ETA: I believe McCain's exact quote was: "Let me just say categorically I'm proud of the people that come to our rallies."

Obama never said the word "Palin" in his response. He did nothing but praise Biden. McCain started with an attack on Biden. Tina Fey is already destroying Palin, so why should Obama go negative? Let the professionals handle it. ;)
 
Is it just me or did McCain look like a corpse?

Heartbeat away and all that, but I wonder what happens if John dies *before* the election. Would they postpone it, or let Sarah take over?

Some are worried about his ability to survive a first term; I'm worried about him stroking out by the weekend.

What would happen? Has a candidate ever croaked on the campaign trail?

There was a thread on this subject earlier. I believe the RNC would pick a new candidate. There is no legal way to postpone an election in America.

My bet? A screaming crapload.

But I think that has less to do with Obama himself, and more to do with general irritation at the Republicans' conduct over the past eight years, not to mention the current economic clusterfrak.

McCain has bet the farm on his pre-2000 reputation as a centrist and a "maverick" (a word which I hope is struck from the English language). The strongest comment he had in this debate, I've got to give him credit, was when he told Obama "I'm not President Bush. If you want to run against President Bush, you should've run in 2004."

Most Republican congresscritters who've supported the Bush administration don't have that reputation. They were enthusiastically supportive of Bush's policies, and before that, they were enthusiastically supporting whatever the Party Line was at the time (mostly "Clinton BAD!"). Now that Bush's policies are slightly more popular than Fidel Castro, they can't spin themselves as "agents of change" as easily as McCain can. And you see how "easy" a time McCain is having.

Heh. I commented in chat that it looked like he soiled himself and was waiting for the debate to end so he could change his diaper.


(Please note, lest someone gets outraged again, that the comment was made in jest, and I have no evidence that McCain wears Depends undergarments or has any sort of incontinence issue.)

And the truth is also that he mentioned a couple of times that there were "fringe" people who showed up to both his and Obama's rallies who said things that were inappropriate. I'm pretty sure we can infer based on his statements that "the people that come to our rallies" whom he is proud of did not include the people who he earlier noted were saying inappropriate things.

I don't think McCain did well in this debate, but let's be real here: it was pretty clear to me he wasn't including the people he characterized as "fringe" in the group he was proud of.
 
Did anyone see the fox news poll about who won the debate? I'm curious because last time they had 80 percent of their viewers saying Mccain won the debate.

It's such a biased audience it's funny.

I am no fan of the McCain of 2008 (the McCain of 2000 is another story) but that is little over the line.

I had fun tonight, sans debate. However, I'm going to bet that McCain went negative and it didn't make a difference - Obama likely "whupped his ass" - again :D

We'll see what the polls say.
