My father still faxes things from his computer. He used to like WinFax, but it doesn't seem to be terribly compatible with Windows 7. And, the built-in "Scan and Fax" seems to be inadequate for his needs.

Can anyone recommend some good, feature-rich Fax software, for Windows 7?
 
I use scan and fax.. It just works. Winfax makes me want to jump off a bridge :) Way to much program to do a simple job
 
Some people, apparently, want that much program, for a simple job.

Scan and Fax, I would argue, doesn't actually work very well. Not if you are faxing a lot. It doesn't record where recieved faxes came from very well. It's log system is much too basic.

It can't even do something as simple as sort the fax number list by last name!!! (Who in the world sorts people by first name, anyway?!)

And, you can't even add people to the address book from the program!! You have to go into Outlook or whatever address book you are using, to add them.

And, don't get me started on its lack of telling you what its status is. WinFax has a persistent icon, in the corner, indicating what is going on. Scan and Fax only pops it up on occasion.

Did I mention that the "Scan" portion isn't even compatible with his scanner?

Etc.

I'm sure my dad has a longer list of complaints than that. I would say that "Scan and Fax" is one of the few things about Windows 7 that is rubbish. Otherwise, the operating system is very good.
 
hmm.. i got a cheap brother 5860cn multi function printer for free after rebate about 3 years ago and it works with fax and scan.. it would have to be an ANCIENT device to not work since the same twain drivers are used regardless of fax and scan or winfax running.

scan and fax is sort of a utility program.. if you isntall outlook 2007 and outlook 2010 you can fax directly through outlook or you can integrate it with a Windows 2003 / 2008 SBS server to do faxing through that.
