Well, anybody who was taking home mid to high six-figure salaries+bonuses or more in years leading up to the final failure. Somehow I doubt any of those executives will be struggling to feed, clothe, and house their families, so just how do you think they'll be "paying" for the failure?Just who do you think "failed" here that hasn't paid for that failure?

I seriously doubt "Twinkies" would have a problem with long shipping times.![]()
I'm disappointed in my fellow JREFers.. It shouldn't have taken 2 pages for someone to point out:
Twinkies have a shelf life of twenty five days..
However, many of you may be excited to know, as I was, that Hostess has confirmed that a Twinkie will explode in a microwave in approx 45 seconds...
Supposedly its a myth that they will last "forever".

Twinkies do last a little bit longer than your average cakes filled with cream: a whole month.
I assumed that anyone posting here about everlasting Twinkies was making a joke...because it's funny.

Ok, I went to read this. This is the same deal as Borders, inept management, lack of control of expansion, etc, giving the cash to the people at the top, and now that it's all come down around them, they want to loot the company by liquidating it and taking the rest of the money as fees for service.
They're looting the debtors, they're looting the shareholders, and they're putting 10,000 people or so out of work in order to enrich upper management. Management has also avoided trying to find a buyer, or anything else, is determined to liquidate, and is spoiling to close the whole business as fast as possible.
That seems clear.
We're talking about people who make 11.50 an hour, you realize. Those are the people on strike. The insults levelled at this union are purely an attack on human beings who are trying to survive, and nothing else.
Those of you who don't understand, look up "liquidationism" and its effect on the last great depression. You'll see just what's happening here.
There was a run on Twinkies at our local supermarket. People were taking whole carts full of Hostess products, leaving the shelves bare.
I was going to do exactly that. But hoard them and not sell them until five years from now. They of course will still be perfectly "fresh".
I've known some people who would think of them as an MRE (what are their shelf life anyway? - LOL)
They will probably still be "fresh" 10,000 years from now. The miracle of preservatives and lots of sugar.

How unfortunate for this to happen. Here we have the bakers union (who only represent about 5000 of the 18,500 workers) striking at a time when Hostess was in bankruptcy. So what did they expect, pay raises? And now i'm hearing "It wasn't the union that killed Hostess"? .. Well i'm not so sure about that. Sure, unions at one time were a great asset to their employees, unfortunately, we are at a fiscal standstill that affects every single worker whether their in the union or not. Seems to me, the union would be of better use to focus on keeping jobs rather than pursuing an unrealistic increase in pay or benefits. Maybe then, they can make up for all those they protected who never deserved a union job.
The company lost $300 million in the last year, the venture firm that took control through their bankruptcy troubles has lost their entire $130 million investment, 85% of their "union" employees (including the Teamsters) agreed to accept the pay cuts to save the company, and yet, it is all the fault of those vulture capitalists!!![]()

The bakers union (ha!), meaning the unskilled idiots masking themselves as "bakers" with their silly job descriptions and union work rules have killed the company with their BS demands - they can all go rot in hell because the other 17,000 employees with families lost their jobs because of them. I can't find a smilie awful enough to describe them, so this one will have to do --->![]()
Just who do you think "failed" here that hasn't paid for that failure?
you DO know that most of the value of top level executive people receive is stock options right? so when the company fails, the stock loses it's value and the worth of their holdings drops .

BCTGM members are well aware that as the company was preparing to file for bankruptcy earlier this year, the then CEO of Hostess was awarded a 300 percent raise (from approximately $750,000 to $2,550,000) and at least nine other top executives of the company received massive pay raises. One such executive received a pay increase from $500,000 to $900,000 and another received one taking his salary from $375,000 to $656,256.
The CEO was converted from salary+bonuses to salary-only as is typical in bankruptcy proceedings. Other management personnel were treated similarly. Perhaps you were just unaware of the actual facts ... but it doesn't seem like that.
hostess lost $300 million last year. obviously this is the union's fault.
Yes and No. Tastebuds change and it could just be that the memory of what it tasted like is always going to be better than it actually was. But also they probably did change, what with the prior version containing trans fats, msg, and whatever else has become the ingredient to avoid for the last decade or two.
As long as we can agree on them not being a "Food". At least not in the conventional sense of the word anyway.

You do realize that a box of Twinkies has an expiration date on it not much longer than a loaf of bread?
Like 'cheese food' ?
We have to bail them out!
