The three-time Trump voter describes what made her/him (I don't remember) vote for Trump, i.e. his promise to lower prices, and "the straw that broke the camel's back" for this voter was that Trump did the opposite. That he also openly declared that he didn't give a ◊◊◊◊ about affordability may also have played a role in the "cumulative process."
Hitler didn't run on a promise to start WW2, and some Germans lost faith in him when he did. Many didn't until he started losing the war. And some never did.
It'll be the same with MAGA.

Of course people who are not particularly bothered by things as they are will be, whether explicitly or not, enemies of actual progress. I think aside from public humiliation, the most important part of the process is simply acknowledgement. I think that's the thing that people of EC's sort would prefer not to undergo even if the humiliation isn't included. I'm reminded of my stepson when he was a child, who rejected any warning about repeating a mistake, because of course I'm different now!

Forgiving and forgetting are two very different things. If you do the second one first, nothing changes.

We're in the habit of rehiring and re-appointing the same old authors of our prior misfortunes, misadventures, and downright disasters, because of course they know best how the system works. That's plenty arguable, of course, but at the very least pretending that what happened doesn't matter, or that it didn't happen at all, is not a good way to insure that the same thing doesn't keep happening.

Don't make the process more difficult for them than it has to be. Some of them are lost causes, but others need help more than humiliation. The leaders of the cult are the ones who should be shamed, but even some of the more active MAGATs are capable of coming to their senses.
