Explosion at the Boston Marathon.

FBI Cancelled a schuduled news conference on the Boston investigation. I wonder if the fiasco this morning has caused them to adapt a "no talking to the media except if we have something definate to say" approach, and that the "sources" within the Justice Department have dried up. Can't blame them for doing that.

Just heard the news conference is back on for sometime later tonight.

If nothing else, this should take the wind out of "you can't film here" policies at public gatherings.

I think you're going to start seeing it encouraged. Also, I think we'll start seeing large banks of security cameras at major events like this. Similar to those large lights that you see around major events, large poles with security camera mounted on them. Not a bad idea if you ask me. Especially if it turns out that the surveillance video garnered from various businesses prove to be valuable.

The FBI has every right to request that professional news organizations act with due diligence and refrain from throwing stuff against the wall in the hope that something sticks.
And if the FBI is buying commercial time on their station, they might even comply with that request.

The demoed a system at the first Obama inauguration that took a gigapixel picture of the crowd in which you could see faces way back at the back of the crowd no problem. One of those taking sequences of pictures of large public events would be a great idea.

That one camera they found in OK City was very useful.

All we need to do it issue visas to russian drivers to be at every event.

What was the CNN fiasco? I've seen it referenced, but nothing specific.

Announced a suspect had been found & arrested.

Eta: also gave a description. (Dark skinned male) & said they were taking him to courthouse to be arraigned. A few hundred people showed up to the courthouse, & the FBI got mad. (IMO, because there was little to no security.)

LOL. The drunk ones will kill more people together than a terrorist would.

wait are you indicating there are sober Russian drivers? (Sorry, too many you tube films).

OK, back to topic. I'll make one prediction here, be it right, left or anarchist (after all, they were rather fond of bombs once upon a time - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wall_Street_bombing and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1919_United_States_anarchist_bombings), it will be a small cell, not more than 3-4 'wannabes" who will have fragile, if any, connections to major terrorist/hate groups.

There have been a couple of these types of incidents averted to date (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Bronx_terrorism_plot for an example of what I am talking about--but an example only, it could just as easily be from the other spectrum of crazy).

As for the guy running--I work for the DoD and have to take Anti-Terrorism training every year. And one of the first things they tell us is to Get Out of the Area--because a second, more powerful bomb may be waiting for the first responders (which makes their actions even more selfless and courageous). So perhaps he (and others) were doing what they had been told to do in other Anti-Terrorism lectures.

But like so much herein, we just don't know. We just don't know.

That picture was photo mosaic made with a Canon PowerShot G10 on a robotic panhead. It's 220 pictures stitched together.

I suspect the comedians are going to let CNN have it big time over this fiasco.
CNN creditbility has taken a pretty big blow today.

Oh hell yeah. The really bad part was them trying to weasle out of/justify it. If they had just said "whoops! That's what happens when you rush to air a story without wait ing for conformation" it likely would've died quickly.
