Explosion at the Boston Marathon.

Now evacuating the Moakley Courthouse, the place any bombing suspect would be taken if an arrest had been made. There's a childcare center in there, too.

Never said that they would be arrested if they didn't.

(Though I imagine if a reporter kept it up, said reporter wouldn't get any questions answered at pressers.)
 
I turned to WBZ the Boston CBS affiliate and here is what the breaking news ticker says:

Massachusetts State Police say no arrest has been made
Authorities have surveillance image of someone carrying black backpack
Surveillance video from Lord & Taylor shows suspect
Surveillance image shows bag dropped at second bombing scene
CBS News: FBI used cell phone call logs to identify suspect
Suspect was wearing black jacket, gray hoodie, baseball hat on backwards
Suspect on cell phone at second explosion site when 1st bomb exploded

I should note that's a screen shot from boston.com - both the smaller headline and the larger headline were on the same page as seen above.
 
The Moakley Courthouse is clear of press and employees, but any police entering the building are doing so in their usual gear, not explosives disposal suits, so who knows what's up.

Stuff flying around twitter seems to be saying it was because of a bomb threat.

Frankly, I would like to see somebody at CNN..which broke the arrest made story...fired over a fiasco like this, but I am not holding my breath.

On 4chan there are apparently a number of people with black backpacks, which they've forwarded to authorities. Strange thing is that black backpacks are rather common. :rolleyes:

Shows you the value of anonymous sources "in law enforcement" or anonymous "official sources".
 
They've bulked up security all around the Moakley Courthouse, including Coast Guard and police boats in Boston Harbor at the 'back door' of the Courthouse.

But in the IMGUR images linked earlier, there are still visible identifiers on the pack shreds and you can rule out a lot of those back packs because of the identifiers.

CNN does it again...they reported intially that a Hospital was being evacuated.
I admit, when I heard that I first thought of the Joker in "Dark Knight Rises"....

Part of a hospital was evacuated a little while ago, a car with suspicious objects in it (gas cans, I think), was parked nearby. But that situation has been resolved.

The FBI has every right to request that professional news organizations act with due diligence and refrain from throwing stuff against the wall in the hope that something sticks.

CNN's mea culpa exemplifies what's wrong with the "get the scoop, who cares if it's accurate" mentality that led to this:

[Updated at 2:58 p.m. ET]The FBI said in a statement Wednesday that no arrest has been made, "contrary to widespread reporting," tied to Monday's Boston Marathon attack.

Before that, following statements from the Justice Department and the Boston police that no arrest has been made, CNN's John King said this:

A federal law enforcement source told him that there has been "significant progress but no arrest." A Boston law enforcement said "we got him," but didn't clarify whether that means authorities have identified a suspect or arrested one.

[Updated at 1:46 p.m.] An arrest has been made in connection with Monday's Boston Marathon bombings, sources tell CNN's John King and CNN contributor Fran Townsend. King's source is with Boston law enforcement, he said; Townsend's source is with federal law enforcement.

Especially since if the authorities have identified a particular suspect they're after, this whole thing just basically alerted him that they're closing in on him.
