Explosion at the Boston Marathon.

Counterterrorism officials found what they believe to be five additional, undetonated explosive devices around the Boston area, according to two people briefed on the rapidly moving investigation.

Wow.

Holy crapballs :boggled:

I'd be absolutely amazed at this stage if this were a one-person job. This is starting to get creepy.

And WSJ is saying 5 more devices that failed to explode.

This appears to have been withdrawn/corrected. The story now has that part removed and has this added at the bottom:

Corrections & Amplifications
Counterterrorism officials found five additional suspect devices around the Boston area on Monday, but a law-enforcement official later said closer examinations led them to doubt that they were bombs. An earlier version of this article cited people briefed on the investigation saying officials believed they were undetonated explosive devices.

Just put Cain on ignore. It's just another case of somebody being incapable of realizing that trolling isn't new or witty or original. That it's nothing more than a carbon copy of a carbon copy of a carbon copy of a carbon copy of something that might've been funny at one point. Trolling is what some people do when they literally have nothing meaningful to add to any discussion ever.

So, yeah. Ignore button is your friend. Left click his name, add to ignore list. Once and done.

The bomb at the Martin Luther King parade in Spokane a couple years ago was in an unattended back pack out in the open.

Be suspicious of unattended bags.

And Alex Jones has to try to use the dead to foment revolution. He's beyond creep. He is an illness.

ETA: Never mind, old news. Sorry. The guy is worse than pond scum.

My FSM, man! Don't run down pond scum! Pond scum is some of the most interesting stuff there is. If you've never spent an afternoon by a pond with a microscope, you've missed something.

AJ is more like that vat down at the sanitation plant.

The stuff in that vat is just as interesting as pond scum when put under a microscope.

AJ is more like the stuff that you scrape off of your shoe on the curb.

Reading more, and looking at the pictures, it's amazing that so few died. This could've been so much worse.

It definitely could have been. The fact that there were medical facilities, ambulances and so many medical personnel already close by undoubtedly saved lives.

There was a medical tent at the finish line (as well as a few ambulances) so the injured were being taken care of almost right away by qualified medical professionals. CNN interviewed 2 of them and at least one had spent some time in Iraqistan and the rest were from ER and trauma center backgrounds according to the interview. They said that it took them a minute from being in the dehydrated and maybe a heart attack mode to being in the major trauma mode but once there they had it covered. One person (a woman) died there but everyone else that they saw is still alive (knock on wood), no doubt because they were already so close to the scene with some medical gear in hand.

The video is so crazy at making you feel like you are there. There's an explosion, and it is confusing what just happened. And the the screaming starts. And then there is a second explosion, and you realise what is going down. And you don't know what is coming next.

The "suspicious Arab man" is probably going to be an issue later on. I wonder if there is a way to prevent the rumour/speculation overdrive that always happens, at least in the news.

Full disclosure: I had a knee-jerk reaction to want to blame the Tea Party, seeing as how this took place on Tax Day in Boston (my brain was going "Boston Tea Party"). But then I thought better of it.

Curse my tribal inclinations

I suspect that many people had similar reactions, who also thought better of it. Then there's the Alex Jones types.

Aw, well this was my first thought:

Holy crap I hope this wasn't some nutbag associated with any cause I care about!

So, make of that what you will.

This ^

Also, just think of all the people (first responders plus good Samaritans) who ran into the carnage to help save people. I'm going to hold onto that fact.
A couple of posters had earlier implied that the bombing had shattered their faith in humanity. That ought to go some way to repairing it.

Hardly. I lost faith in humanity many years ago mostly on account of my large, drug abusing family of miscreant thieves. But, keep in mind, I am a misanthrope.

I hope it is not Tea Party related.:(

I know it might sound terrible but they were the first suspects in my mind. My reasoning was that:

1) Why would a foreign terrorist cell target Boston, a city almost no one outside of America is even aware of?
2) Massachusetts is often considered a Liberal nexus of some sort.
3) Running is often considered a past time of the left (at least according to some who think "true Americans" use gas powered vehicles only to get around)
4) Boston has a history with Tea Parties

Now in reality it could have been anyone including someone with a grudge against the marathon or someone that just really hates molasses based recipes. We need to let authorities sort this out. I wouldn't doubt the reason the Saudi national was under guard was because someone with a brain realized he might be targeted for a reprisal by someone who just decides to blame Arabs and goes looking for some that were there.

In retrospect, I wish I could withdraw my earlier comment. I had no idea it would set off these painfully hack replies (with emoticons!). Good Lord...

Don't worry Cain. I actually found your early posts rather humorous. We need some levity when things get terrible.

In fact somewhere around 5:00 local time I cracked this joke with my roommate:

If only there had been good guys with bombs there!

He laughed.

So, yeah, a little snark and humor is a good thing as it reminds that the terrible events of the present will pass and there will be a tomorrow.
