Explosion at the Boston Marathon.

A veteran who was there was interviewed on NPR. He claimed he smelled cordite.

Cordite is smokeless. The pictures from the scene suggest otherwise. Maybe (but unlikely due to sniffer dogs) a part of the trigger but certainly not the primary explosive.

I've smelled cordite, and ANFO and I am not sure I could distinguish, but I am certainly no expert.

Beat me to it on cordite being smokeless.

Does anyone even still make cordite?

I have no bomb making knowledge but the guy being interviewed said he smelled it right away.

As for the dogs the bombs could have been placed after they went through the area.

From what I've read the dogs are at the entry point(s) during the event. Like I said the images pretty much rule out cordite as the main explosive due to too much smoke. ANFO is too bulky to be carried in by backpack so that's pretty much ruled out. There are other types of explosives that fit the currently available evidence much better. That's if they were brought in today.

It's possible that the bombs were staged inside of private property that was within the secured area (maybe inside an apartment or hotel room) before the security sweep and then taken out to their detonation points afterwards. I'm sure that the authorities are looking into that as we speak.

(wasn't the first one in front of a hotel?)

How long before someone claims that the Jews were warned not to be near the finish line of the Boston Marathon today ?

Yes, we've seen this show before.

Tragedy caused by a zealot or psychotic results in massively bad ad hoc federal legislation removing civil liberties generally, which is interpreted by conspiracy paranoiacs as causally related.

But why let a crisis go to waste ? We need stop & frisk laws w/o cause or something similarly odious - right ?

The veteran bystander was also interviewed on the BBC. They just replayed it and he says he was in an office building above the explosion and smelled cordite as the smoke rose to him. "I know what it smells like" and also "I know what it sounds like."

I'm no expert, just reporting what he said.

Fair enough. Eyewitnesses (nosewitnesses?) are not always all that reliable. The same thing (smelling cordite) was said when the Pentagon was attacked even though it's quite clear that there was no cordite involved.

I keep hearing this description, but most of the olives I've ever seen are either green, or a shade of black much darker than many Africans.

He was in the Kalamata / Taggiasca skin tone spectrum, but went darn near Cerignola when we went through security. I gave him one of my gold airline cards and told him to wave it around and act like he owned the place. We got through in like 10 minutes. Weird day.

CNN:

Doctors are "pulling ball bearings out of people in the emergency room," a terrorism expert briefed on the investigation told CNN's Deborah Feyerick.

The same source said the blasts resulted in at least 10 lost limbs.

The FBI is calling it a Terrorist Attack, but have no leads as to who was responsible.:

From CNN:
"Initial tests indicate that the two bombs were small and possibly crude, with the tests not indicating any high-grade explosive material was used, a federal law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation told CNN national security contributor and former homeland security adviser Fran Townsend.

The source said the FBI considers the incident a terrorist attack, "but they've made clear to me they do not know at this time whether those responsible for the attack were a foreign or domestic group," Townsend said.

CNN reported that authorities have issued a "be on the lookout" alert for a dark-skinned or black man who may have an accent, that tried to get into a secure area shortly before the blast.

Unfortunately, media speculation combined with normal police investigative techniques will add fuel to the CT ,nutjob, fire and you can bet your bottom dollar that the "false flag" crap is already being cried out across yee olde interwebz.
