Expelled from Expelled (Richard Dawkins got in!)

Three points:

1. The move is scheduled to be released in less than a month, but it doesn't look like they've even settled on a final cut.

2. It appears, from the conversation between Myers and Dawkins, that the current cut of the film MAY be violating copyrights held by Harvard University and XVIVO, by using clips from Inner Life without permission. The copyright allows use for educational purposes, but prohibits use for any commercial purpose such as a theatrical movie.

3. The movie will be previewed this coming Thursday at Biola University. It isn't free ($10), perhaps because there's a "meet & greet" with Ben Stein included. While a case might be made that a free preview falls within the "educational purpose" permitted, charging admission (even at a college) would seem to me (IANAL) to make this a commercial event. It might be interesting to see if the copyrighted footage is included in this screening, if one is in the Los Angeles/Orange County area.

Loose Change : September 11 :: Expelled : Reality

Ah, good ole Cornelia Dean.

It looks like they're sticking with the "we didn't invite them" claim.

Which is funny, because you don't need an invititation to these preview screenings - you just sign up on the Expelled website, and they send you a confirmation email.

I haven't been able to find a link on the Expelled website where one can sign up for preview screenings. Maybe you have to be signed up for their press releases, or maybe I'm just missing it.

I found it strange that the reporter presented the claims made by both sides but didn't bother to confirm whether or not what they said was true. PZ Myers' claim would have been easy to check and others have confirmed it as true. Isn't that what reporters are supposed to do?

Linda

What's so odd about "Clinton"? Clint Eastwood shares the same first name. Is Clifton better?

Cliton would have raise more eyebrows.

To Linda: I think the rush to press made investigation difficult... I'm sure the story will become clearer over time; I guess they wanted to sound like they were presenting both side--though reality only has one truth.

I bet Stein wishes this will go away. I hope they get sued big time for their use of the Harvard video... and that they are backed into a corner with their hypocrisy and dishonesty.

Sounds like a lot of creation bashing, I hope that people realize it is the creationist corruption of science and offensive accusations that science is rooted in hitler's view of some kind of species heirarchy over blond hair and blue eyes being the most desirable traits even though that was all wrong...

I'm just so angry to hear what was in the film. It's like saying dynamite is bad because you can blow people up with it. Science is not a thing that corrupted hitler and the nazis, they corrupted science much the same way the creationists do.

It's not that science is bad, or dynamite, or even things like guns. It's the people factor that can twist it into bad or good. Dawkins and Myers have never used anything to harm others. They've only pointed out that a designer is not science.

And evolution has nothing to do with eugenics. Breeding for desirable traits of animals had been going on for thousands of years before Darwin. When eugenics was discussed it was not Darwin they were discussing, it was farmers and breeders.

Yes... they just need to demonize evolution by associating it with "things people are afraid of"-- Darwin = social Darwinism (which had nothing to do with Darwin and the Nazis were Christian which theists seem to be unaware of and avoid.) Evolution="evilution"=atheism=communism=Stalin=evil=horror

In the mind of many theists the world is black and white with winners living happily ever after and those who fail the invisible guys faith test will perish for eternity. It's childish primitive good/bad guy thinking dressed up with grown up words.

And religion makes some people lose all critical faculties so their brain is ripe for this drivel.

Ironic post of the year.

Where is the link at which people can sign up for free screenings?

You found that strange? That's standard operating procedure for American journalism these days.
