Executions in California cost $300 million each

The fudge factor is closer to 50 just based on looking at how they did the math (they summed the cost for 714 prisoners and divided by the 13 executed). I do not actually believe that it costs more to execute a prisoner than it does to keep them locked up for life without possibility of parole.

I wasn't saying there was just one lawyer, I was illlustrating how many man-hours at what rate is required to rack up $12 million in legal fees.

But again, the OP wasn't talking about *only* legal fees (that is, lawyer fees).

And you purposely cast it as what it would take a single lawyer (an impossible number of hours billed at an impossible rate) just to make the figure sound incredible. Why not calculate how many judges salaries it would take? How about courtroom use? And so on, and so on.

Execution of a lawfully convicted person by definition is not murder. The state, when acting in it's [sic] legal authority through the police and courts, cannot murder. Neither can a soldier shooting an enemy combatant. Nor can a private citizen exercising their rights to self-defense.

There are indeed cases when a soldier shooting an enemy combatant is murder. And there are indeed cases when a citizen exercising self-defense commits murder.

But I understand your point. Referring to an execution as murder is just question begging.

It also releases sociopaths, gives them new identities and puts them in unsuspecting communities where they commit new crimes, as happened with one of the monsters who killed little Jamie Bulger. Jon Venables (or whatever new name they gave him now) was recently re-arrested for participating in child pornography.

This guy I think more than sums up my opinion of THAT:

Furthermore, BOTH of the monsters have violated their paroles prior to that in 2005.

None of that was in response to the point that UKDave made. It wasn't relevant. Did you read the thread up till that point?

ETA - I see others have questioned your apparently pointless drive-by posting and you haven't responded to them either. If I'd read to the end of the thread, I wouldn't have bothered.

Never pass up an opportunity to complain about an un-American system of justice.

That's what the 9th amendment tells us.
