Yeah.

The process and standard differs among the states, but the standard is something along the lines of (1)mentally ill or addicted and (2) dangerous to self or others. Different states have different layers of review for this.

I think this is extremely dangerous that the police or government can just arbitrarily hospitalize a person with a disorder that is not dangerous (like schizophrenia), but just makes them a bit quirky...

If this were true in Tennessee, a large percentage of our homeless population here in Nashville would have been taken off the streets long ago. Some of the rants when they don't get what they think you owe them are bizarre.
