ESP and Reincarnation

I would think the meaning of the words critical and thinking itself should be enough of a clue about the meaning of the term, at least enough to understand that it doesn't mean 'firmly believing in things for which there are no logical arguments.'

It might have meant 'critical' as in 'critical mass'? If you think hard enough you have an explosion of ideas......

I agree.

At this point I, understand the definitions of critical thinking and speculation/creative thinking and I certainly will use them this way.

However, I have scoured this forum and they are not defined. Perhaps they should be.

Bob

I think what we've done here is of more use than a list of rigid definitions.

We've arrived at some mutually agreeable definitions to suit the purpose of this particular discussion, and when we're finished with them they may be discarded in favour of some new ones that we create for the next incarnation of the subject.

It's a flexibility that keeps discussion from becoming doctrine.

I sense that threads in general have a certain psychic vitality as this one does. It is almost like a psychic sense of momentum that pulls me in and I feel attracted to interacting. When that runs out for everyone the thread stops.

So I postulate that whoever interacts with this thread has entry to psychic pool which is contributed to by each poster and has a life of its own in the psyche to which we all have access. And this is why forums are so popular, they reflect a stimulating psychic vitality.

So HI everyone, please let me introduce myself, I am in the psychic reality of the thread.

We are the Borg. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.

This sounds like nonsense but perhaps it isn't. Perhaps I don't understand what you are trying to say. Therefore, please explain further what you are proposing.

Can I just repost what Akhenaten said above?

"Bob, I'm not sure if you're doing deadpan irony for your own and our amusement or not. If you are, you're playing it very well, and I salute you."

Here's another very good source about critical thinking. (I mean, come on y'all KNOW my thoughts on Wikipedia... ;) The differences between opinions based on critical thinking and opinions based on creative thinking and speculation are clear in a way. In another way, though, I wonder if in this particular thread what we're really talking about is opinions which have been clearly defined vs. those which haven't. If these opinions haven't been clearly defined, then we can't judge what type of thinking they're based on to begin with.

That's a great site, and I'll refer to it often. taa.

Is SkepticWiki any good? I use it sometimes for a quick "fact check" but rarely quote it for the same reasons that apply, as you rightly point out, to any wiki.

Cheers

But why would you judge an opinion if it wasn't clearly defined!!! You really don't know what the opinion is.

Wouldn't it be a bit foolish not to ask for a clarification first?

Many people have asked for clarification of your opinion in this thread, but honestly it's still completely unclear to me what, in your opinion, this reincarnating consciousness is, how and why it could reincarnate, and why this reincarnation would be an extremely rare occurrence. I figured, you haven't been able to explain these things because that part of your hypotheses simply doesn't exist, but when someone else proposed that, you called him foolish.

Give it a rest!

Give it a rest!

I will. I had already given up on expecting you to offer any kind of logical explanation for your beliefs. I was just pointing out the irony of you calling people foolish for not asking you to explain, in a thread that consists mostly of people asking you to explain.
