What I find interesting in this is the incredibly weird racism on display.

On the one hand, they delight in the opportunity to indulge in the racist nickname "Pocahontas", but then they turn around and try to claim she isn't even Native at all. So, they're going out of their way to use what is, to them, the incorrect racist epithet.

That's some truly convoluted "logic", there.

You can't seriously be telling us that you've never encountered another situation where somebody makes fun of somebody else for supposedly claiming to be/do "X" by calling him/her something that would sound like an even bigger version of X if it weren't sarcasm, which of course it is.

•Nobody mocked for being weak but thinking he's tough or trying to act tough, by being called "Superman" or "Hulk" or "Rambo"

•Nobody mocked for being a terrible singer who thinks (s)he's a good singer, by using the name of a famous singer
•Nobody mocked for being unattractive but deluded about his/her attractiveness, by using the name of a famous model/actor
•Nobody mocked for overestimating his/her ability to make money in one business or another, by using the name of a rich successful business person

There's nothing complicated about this. People with single-digit ages, and simpler minds than average for their age, come up with these things themselves every day. And they're who you need to look to for the explanation of any Trump behavior.

But what exactly is Warren is being mocked for? The intent of the original attack was not to accuse her of lying about her heritage, but of trying to take advantage of "identity politics." That's apparently a false accusation, but that doesn't matter when all you're really interested in is pushing one of your reactionary supporter's buttons.

Rule 2: racism is stupid. Nothing here that we haven't seen throughout history - I'm sure plenty of non-chinese Asians have been called "chinks", plenty of rabid anti-"muslim" people attack Coptic Christians and Sihks, lots of Native Americans have been told to "Go back where you came from" in the US. I've had people toss out anti-latinx and anti-Hispanic stereotypes, by people who know my plainly Latinx name*. Bigots like Limbaugh simultaneously covered Obama using plainly anti-black stereotypes, and then spun around and claimed "He's not black, he's half white and half Arab." Using "Pocahantas" as a slur, and then claim that Warren has no Native American ancestry.

No point in her using reason to persuade people who aren't being reasonable in the first place.

*: And I don't mean jokes between good friends who all know it's cool - I'm fine with that.

ETA: To be kind - "ironic" racism is actually pretty difficult to pull off correctly, which is why many people are disgusted when most liberals say something racist and then claim that it's "ironic".

No, I meant irony, "a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result." Its not that she can't be part Native American, its that its less likely and that it was very unlikely to have impacted her life much. It certainly wouldn't have impacted her life in the way it would someone that looks more stereotypically Native American or had a more stereotypical Native American name.

Its absolutely meant to be mocking but mocking of her for actions she has specifically taken not for her ethnicity. Mocking her for adopting the mantle of a minority when to all outward appearances she is part of the majority.
