EDL can't read shock!

Ireland is historically Muslim, as we all remember from its golden age under Caliph Ali Muhammed O'Neill.

Even if it was, say "Celtic Islamic Supporters Club", so flippin' what?

It wouldn't in itself be an affront to the memory of the dead soldier.

In other news, EDL members are currently massing in Whitehall, flashing Nazi salutes beside the WW2 memorials.

Sorry if I missed it, but where is the evidence that these are EDL supporters?

ETA: for both examples given in the OP, actually, I'm not seeing any evidence of an EDL connection. They seem to just be random internet users.

I'm going to go ahead and take it on good faith that they are EDL members or sympathizers. Even random internet posters are more credible than the EDL.

Hmm, you may have a point.

The collection of genii in the first story seem to consist of several Scots - one might assume that they are Rangers fans keen to bad mouth Celtic - so presumably not members of the English Defence League.

EDL top boy Tommy Robinson is included in some tweets though, so perhaps those people are EDL fans.

This is a board for skeptical inquiry and discussion. Generally we don't take claims "on good faith." Especially when the evidence provided falls short of the claim.

ETA: And moving the goal posts by saying, well, maybe it's not the EDL, but surely they must be "EDL sympathizers" when it's pointed out that the claim in the OP was unsupported doesn't work either.

But Doghouse do you accept that the people involved, EDL or not, are cretins of the first order and have serious difficulty with reading comprehension?

I didn't move any goalposts, because I never set any in the first place.

I know it's not a skeptical approach, and I don't care. The EDL can suck it.

What does this have to do with anything? That's like if I started a thread saying that homosexuals were rioting in the streets like maniacs, only to have someone point out that they weren't homosexuals, they were white supremacists, and then me to come
back with " Well, do you accept that the people involved were acting like maniacs?"

The thread title should be "OP can't read shock!" Not that the grammar makes any sense in the first place.

I think the problem lies more in the confusing font on the flag. Looking at the slightly blurry and over-saturated image of the flag in the picture that sparked the problem, I couldn't figure out that the word was "island" until I saw a better picture of an identical flag. It looked more like "islaDo" to me, but I can see how it could be mistaken for "islam".

Not that there should have been any reason for outrage even if it did say "islam".

Doing the least bit of googling, or even just reading the first article shows that my faith was well placed.
