Stacko is making the Point that bothsidesism was a thing during the civil rights movement in the 1960s as well. It's just as onerous today with people not being able to condemn frickin' Nazis without reflexively having to condemn "the left" as well, as it was then.

Even if someone was completely oblivious and didn't know beforehand that the event was organized by a specific group, I would think that any "very fine people" would GTFO as quickly as possible when they saw that a large percentage of the protesters were Nazis, KKK, and other assorted scumbags chanting racist, bigoted garbage. If some crummy statue of a Confederate general is that important to someone that they will protest alongside the deplorables, they should probably rethink their priorities.

Did MLK murder anyone? Did he burn anyone alive? Did he set any bombs in churches? When compared to his enemies, his faults hardly seem worth mentioning. I don't doubt he had faults but any he had are trivial compared to the faults of those he opposed.

And they were personal faults, not ones that affected his movement.

In the 1920's and 30's most Germans paid little attention to the Nazis (who could hardly be taken seriously, let's face it) and took positions between Conservative and Social Democrat. I suppose one could call them "enablers", but one has to have some sympathy for them. Their world was very new to them, and they had no idea how fragile it was.

The Nazis looked like a joke.

Hitler looked like a joke. His followers of lukewarm intelligence looked like a joke. Their army-store surplus uniforms looked like a joke.

Nobody was laughing later on when they started using violence.

Same for Mussolini I guess, even though he had better uniforms.

But let's not forget that these movements had a lot of WW1 veterans in them. That made them a whole lot tougher, a whole lot more capable of violence and a whole lot more pissed-off than a bunch of target cashiers with Tiki torches.
