I do disagree with with extrajudicial killings, especially when carried out by foreign powers within the borders of a sovereign state and using forged documents that compromise the sovereignty and security of MY state, and I make no qualms about it. Please point out where I've said any different? You should probably go back over that exchange and read it sloooowly this time, because what you've said here has sweet f.a to do with what I was saying to Virus.

It's war. Extrajudicial killings are legit. Bush authorized strikes on buildings where Saddam was suspected tp be residing. Obama has been authorizing extrajudicial killings of Taliban leaders in Pakistan for ages. Britain's been sending the Gurkha to take out Taliban leaders too. None of these targets were tried and convicted in a court of law.

So I think your statement needs a correction; You disagree when Israel conducts extrajudicial killings.

To be entitled to prisoner-of-war status, captured service members must be lawful combatants entitled to combatant's privilege—which gives them immunity from punishment for crimes constituting lawful acts of war, e.g., killing enemy troops. To qualify under the Third Geneva Convention, a combatant must have conducted military operations according to the laws and customs of war, be part of a chain of command, wear a "fixed distinctive marking, visible from a distance" and bear arms openly. Thus, uniforms and/or badges are important in determining prisoner-of-war status; and francs-tireurs, terrorists, saboteurs, mercenaries and spies do not qualify. In practice, these criteria are rarely interpreted strictly. Guerrillas, for example, usually do not wear a uniform or carry arms openly, yet captured guerrillas are often granted POW status.

The criteria are applied primarily to international armed conflicts; in civil wars, insurgents are often treated as traitors or criminals by government forces, and are sometimes executed. However, in the American Civil War, both sides treated captured troops as POWs, presumably out of reciprocity, although the Union regarded Confederate personnel as separatist rebels. However, guerrillas and other irregular combatants generally cannot expect to simultaneously receive benefits from both civilian and military status.

What part of "terrorists do not qualify" is difficult to understand?

Are Hamas and Fatah terrorists members of a state military that fights according to the rules of war? Crap no. So they don't get POW status. If you want to claim there are exceptions then do your own damn homework.

Does Israel afford POW status to Palestinians who were arrested during the 2nd Intifada? Many of them were men in uniform, fighting the IDF in gun battles.

Surely, such folks deserve POW status.

and what about the hundreds of children still in Israeli prisons?
