Dreams are real

Actually, it kinda gets me thinking. And that's never a good sign ;)

I'd say that dreams, as in, the phenomenon of dreaming, are a real thing. It's easily provable that those electric signals in the brain are real.

The events depicted in the dream, however, are not.

Basically same as, dunno, my Star Wars DVD collection is very real, but the events in the movies are obviously not. Or like the LOTR trilogy on my shelf is a real book, but the events in it are not.

Tell me you're not serious. You base this knowledge on something a figment of your imagination said inside a figment of your imagination. There is no logical step linking your dream to the "multiverse" marvel/dc-comic book like thingy you got going on.

Oh, I love comic books. But I'm pretty sure that the stories in there are not very real-like.

If you had done some research there are perfectly good and plausible explainations on how dreams work. Where are you coming from?

If any of my dreams were true, either:
- My sister has a rare form of immunodeficiency to cure which she has to get transfusions from a dolphin.
- I host inside of me a big muscular guy that kinda looks like Bison from street fighter and has a omocidal streak, which led me to rip my granparents to shreds.
- I can fly and filter oxigen from water.
- I can make crackpots like you understand that to formulate a hypothesis you have to be informed on the subject at hand.
- I have a house that answers to my verbal commands.
- My teeth sometimes get monstrously huge and fall off.
- Etcetera.

Do you have any intelligent reply to this and other posts? Something based on more than a subjective impression?
Do you really think Marvel would be interested in my thoughts? I'll call them immediately!

I agree. There is some reality in dreams.

For example, a few nights ago I dreamt I was eating this really big marshmallow. When I woke in the morning my pillow was gone!

(Sorry, was bored)

Reality is electrical signals interpreted by the brain. The same things happen in dreams. Therefore dreams = Reality.
What do you mean by reality?

Give me an example of something that isn't real.

A few nights ago, I enjoyed congress with Jennifer Aniston. However, I believe if asked, she would dispute that.
You spent the night with Jennifer Aniston, and all you did was watch C-Span?

I few nights ago I had a dream where Earth had been taken over by giant carnivorous plants and I was the leader of a rebellion. Armed with comically over-sized hedge clippers we fought the alien (at some point they became alien giant plants, although they weren't originally) menace and lost horribly. So, if this is reality, and we do get overrun by giant carnivorous plants who may or may not be alien, don't follow me.

1. Mental states are brain states.
2. Brain states are real.
3. Dreams are mental states.

:. Dreams are real.

Sherlock Holmes is an idea someone had
Ideas are brain states
Brain states are real
Sherlock Holmes is real.

Sherlock Holmes is an idea someone had
Ideas are brain states
Brain states are real
Sherlock Holmes is real.

If reductionism is true, then Holmes is real*

* Holmes would exist as a particular brain state of Arthur Conan Doyle.
