As I explained, though, I did not have those in mind at the time, since I misunderstood what David was referring to. He confirmed that he was referring to more than just ABC10's posts, and he gave me some quotes from other posts, without any explanation whatsoever. I did not (and still do not) consider those quotes to be examples of fallacious reasoning, or non-sequiturs, or trolling, and I gave my reasoning in detail. Neither you nor David has responded. Instead, you simply continue to assert that I have been given an example. I think I've amply demonstrated who is interested in honest debate, and who isn't.

I can't speak for David, but I'm not willing to jump through hoops to provide more evidence to someone who has demonstrated themselves to be arbritrarily dismissive of evidence already provided to them.

I can only pray that most of us won't turn into foolish, silly olde folk and have sense enough to keep away from users and our mouths shut, but it is his life. It would be a sad day in America if our money was take and incarcerated for exercising our 1st Amendment Rights. Would seem like Germany olde times in 30s and 40s.

The first amendment is fine, as long as someone doesn't say something offensive, particularly having to do with gays or racial issues. Then all bets are off. Doesn't really matter if it's a private conversation or not. There are limits to the bill of rights you know.

Yet another misunderstanding of freedom of speech. The government did not arrest him for what he said. Hence, he his First Amendment rights were not violated.

That nugget and her Hitler fascination just would not go away and eventually became her camel's back breaker.

Abdul-Jabbar: What bothers me about this whole Donald Sterling affair isn’t just his racism. I’m bothered that everyone acts as if it’s a huge surprise. Now there’s all this dramatic and very public rending of clothing about whether they should keep their expensive Clippers season tickets. Really? All this other stuff I listed above has been going on for years and this ridiculous conversation with his girlfriend is what puts you over the edge? That’s the smoking gun?

I believe it was he who said earlier today something that I had been thinking when pondering Bundy and Sterling's current plight, that these incidents are actually a sort of "blessing in disguise". Soon they both will be replaced as the story of the week by even more momentous events, but in the meantime it gives us all a chance to pause and really think long and hard about racism and its consequences. It makes me wonder how much longer I can just ignore or tolerate racists in my midst without calling them out.

KA-J: Make no mistake: Donald Sterling is the villain of this story. But he’s just a handmaiden to the bigger evil. In our quest for social justice, we shouldn’t lose sight that racism is the true enemy. He’s just another jerk with more money than brains.

The comments were made in 2002. I don't think race relations were at the forefront of anybody's mind then. Recent problems had to do with partisanship (Clinton impeachment, 2000 Presidential election), a bursting stock market bubble, a recession, corporate fraud (Enron), and of course 9/11 and its aftermath. Lott probably had in mind that somebody of Thurmond's strong will and character would have done a better job managing some of these problems than the Presidents we did have. Obviously, that was non-sensical because Thurmond ran 54 years prior, and he wouldn't still be president. But I think he was sort of grafting Thurmond on to the present and speculating that he would deal better with these problems than the then current political leaders.

Why is it more reasonable to assume Lott was speaking nonsensically than with intentional racist subtext?

It was an OK article. Kind of a different twist with the whole feeling icky about spying thing. But not really all that unique..... every talking head I listened to opined about the same issues from the 2006..... It's so weird the NAACP was going to give this guy a lifetime achievement award.... how the hell did that come about?
